Tackling the Bose
I bought my 1991 Z a few weeks ago and drove it from Northern MI to TX...without any sound from the radio, except low static. It was a long time to be alone with my thoughts!
Regardless, I am now tackling the repairs. First off, the antenna was stuck in the up position. I could hear the motor run when I turned the radio on and off, so i figured it was the nylon cable in the mast. Ordered one off of eBay and got everything working on that end. I did have to disassemble everything because the nylon cable was in about 4 pieces inside the unit. Next, I figured it was a safe bet that the 4 amps in the speaker enclosures needed to be rebuilt, so I sent them to Doctor Don and he had them back to me in 48 hours! Now, at full volume, I have low, low sound that is audible only in a quiet garage without the engine running...progress, I guess. Called Doctor Don and he said it was the CDM, which I was hoping to to avoid since I basically hate "contortionist" projects. I did watch the youtube vid on getting it out and that helped! I was able to get the CDM out in a little under 30 minutes. So, off it goes tomorrow. Who knows, maybe I'll have sound by the end of the week! |
