The RM offering will again span the spectrum of the market, ranging from a diverse mix of prewar classics to important sports and racing cars, poster cars of the 1970s and 1980s and high performance late-model super cars.

THE WORLD'S GREATEST COLLECTOR CAR EVENTS 1/10/2015 - 1/18/2015 What began as a simple meeting between two car buffs in 1960 has emerged over some 40 years into one of the world's most prestigious and anticipated collector car auctions and expositions. It began in Scottsdale, Arizona a Wild-West town that had yet to spread its wings and create its own identity. The two participants were Russ Jackson and Tom Barrett, drawn together by a car advertised for sale. It seems Mr. Barrett was selling his 1933 Cadillac V-16 Town Car, and it appears Mr. Jackson was interested. Appears may be the operative word, as a deal was never struck. However, the beginning of a lifelong friendship and partnership was firmly cemented between the two gentlemen. The initial enterprise was to set the tone for what would become the Barrett-Jackson legacy. It was in 1967 that Barrett and Jackson presented a car show they called, with the appropriate flair, Fiesta del los Auto Elegance. The event was a fund-raiser for local charities, including the Scottsdale Library. In 1971, the two combined their talents to present the first classic car auction, featuring classics from their individual collections. Barrett's Mercedes 770 Phaeton chiseled industry headlines, selling for $153,000 and grabbing the attention of collectors worldwide. The sale and the inaugural event thrust the Barrett-Jackson name into international prominence. The 1980's witnessed the real emergence of the collector car industry, as record prices and record participation were the rule. However, the Barrett-Jackson partnership was not content to ride the wave, as the two men continued to set the standard: Barrett brought the very best and rarest automobiles to the event and earned the reputation as the Grandfather of the Collector Car Industry, while Jackson expertly collected and restored cars for show. It was during this time, too, that the elder Jackson brought his sons Brian and Craig onto the team, and wife Nellie ran the day-to-day operations of the thriving auction company. Most recently, change has continued to play a role in the internationally acclaimed event. Russ Jackson passed away in 1993, Brian Jackson succumbed to cancer in 1995, and Tom Barrett who retired in 1997 and passed away in April, 2004. Craig Jackson, who had worked actively on a daily basis throughout the year and on-site at the event, took over the reins and led Barrett-Jackson to even greater successes with an aggressive plan of growth, expansion and hi-tech innovations. The auction began airing live on Speedvision in 1997. Internet live bidding was also introduced that same year. A $17 million sale, 65% sales success ratio and over 100,000 spectators marked the 1998 event, as did a cyber-simulcast on the Internet, a bidder liaison service and the introduction of an international-designer fashion show. The 1999 affair featured some $22 million in sales, nearly 800 cars, a +77% sales ratio and 125,000 attendees. In 2004 we had nearly 800 cars with a staggering 98.5% sales ratio earning $38.5 million in sales and 185,000 attendees. As the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction races into the new millennium, history and tradition continue to define its role with the collector car industry. As bright and shining as its past, the future of this great event created out of the common interests of two men is surely just as sparkling.

Second annual Arizona Concours d Elegance sets the date for 2015 PHOENIX Following a highly successful inaugural event, the date for the second-annual Arizona Concours d Elegance at the historic Arizona Biltmore Resort has been set: January 11, 2015. The Arizona Concours, an exclusive celebration of fine automobiles in an intimate setting, will once again serve as the startup and focal point for the famed classic car auction week that happens every year in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area. The three Arizona car collectors who founded the Concours Kevin Cornish, Ed Winkler and Chuck Stanford said that the overwhelmingly positive response from spectators and participants at the inaugural event, which happened January 12, helps set the tone and direction for the future. The founders of the Arizona Concours d Elegance were very pleased with the success of the event for our entrants, judges, sponsors and attendees, and especially for our charity, Make-A-Wish Arizona, Cornish said. Plans for 2015 are under way and we look forward to having much of the same elements as 2014, but with some improvements to enhance the quality of the overall experience. Make-A-Wish Arizona, the founding chapter of the national organization that grants wishes for children facing life-threatening medical conditions, raised $23,500 during the Concours, which will fund future wishes for a number of them, according to spokesperson Lisa Evans. The Concours held January 12 glowed under a sparkling blue Arizona sky in balmy shirtsleeve weather while most of the nation shivered in winter cold. The magnificent collection of 75 vintage automobiles, ranging from full classics to sports cars and exotics, was set on the lush grass of the Arizona Biltmores landscaped inner lawns, adding the art deco elegance of the 1920s resort to the ambiance of the Concours. The winner of the first Best of Show award at the inaugural Arizona Concours was a 1925 Hispano-Suiza H6B Cabriolet de Ville owned by Donald Nichols of Lompoc, Calif. It was quite a thrill, Nichols said of winning the top prize for a rare classic car that he restored himself. I thought the Concours was outstanding. The venue was incredibly beautiful. We couldnt be happier with it. The planning process for the 2015 Arizona Concours has already begun, and several potential entrants have sent in applications to include their vintage cars in the next event. Announcements will be sent out during the next few months regarding such 2015 Arizona Concours features as honored automotive marques, special awards, celebrity guests and key sponsors. For more information about the Arizona Concours d Elegance, see www.arizonaconcours.com. The Arizona Concours d Elegance is a not-for-profit corporation registered with the State of Arizona, with federal 501(c)(3) status pending.
