1957 Chevrolet 2 door hardtop seamless "California style" frame for sale
I have a 100% straight seamless "California Style" frame for a 1957 2-Door Hardtop (2 Door Sports Coupe). Dad was a frame/alignment specialist and this frame was going to be used for a future 57 project, but he passed before he got to use it.
The frame has surface rust, but was never stored on the ground. This seamless frame was desired by racers of the day because the seamless frames were supposedly 80 lbs. lighter than the welded frames which were in 95% of the cars. The conventional frame is comprised of 2 channels which oppose each other and are overlayed slightly, then welded together. These "seamless or "California-style" frames were used in cars assembled all over the US, and not just in the state of California. My current 1957 2 door hardtop has the 2 piece frame. These frames were what the NASCAR "Black Widow" cars used rather than the 2 piece frames, apparently for strength purposes as well. The frames for theBlack Widows were sent by rail to SEDCO (Southern Engineering and Development Company-located in Atlanta itself) all the way from Detroit as the local Atlanta assembly plant used the 2 piece frames. In 1958 Chev supposedly went to a cross-braced frame which was significantly heavier. I live in the Woodstock Ontario, Canada area. Priced at $2000 obo, feel free to leave any comments or questions. Thanks for looking. peace Paul |
