Default C6, Served Cold

Went to a charity in-town car show a few years ago. One of the
local vette clubs was there and they all parked together. I was not
in the club and did not know any of them so I parked a ways away in the general show area.

As is usually the case I was the only ZR1 there.

During the course of the day as I sat behind the Z, non of the other
vette guys came over to talk or ask about the '91. No biggie. Most were
C5 and C6 as usual.

Car show ended around 4 PM. I fired up and rolled out.

As luck would have it I ended up number three at the red light just outside
the show ground. In front of me was a C6, and in front of him was a C6 ZO6 first at the light. Ahead of us was a quarter mile of straight expressway onramp. It was the perfect setup.

The ZO6 started blipping the throttle before the light changed. I got the feeling he was going to put on a show for the crowd.
I had never raced a C6 before, much less a ZO6, but I got ready in case the guy in front of me went too. Power key ON. Suspension set to TOUR.

Just I suspected, when the light turned green the ZO6 rolled thru the intersection, with the C6 and me behind. As soon as he cleared the intersection he let her go. When he launched the other C6 went too and I jumped on the LT5 as hard as I knew how.

I was actually surprised when I passed the C6 about half way up the on ramp. I glanced over as I pulled by and think I caught a
glimpse of an unhappy face. The ZO6 was just ahead.

I thought for a second I might have him, but it was not to be. I felt
the Z acceleration max out and the ZO6 was pulling away. I gave up at
about 130 mph and it felt like he had plenty left. We both slowed and waved and then went our seperate ways.

The C6 ZO6 is a mighty beast no doubt. But I was proud of the
old Z girl for catching at least one C6 driver by surprise. As I drove
away afterwards I waved at him too. He did not wave back.
