Default Re: First a Sinkhole Now a Solar Eclipse

The plan:

Round trip from Los Angeles to Bowling Green to Chicago and back. About three weeks of travel time.

Depart Tuesday August 15 from Orange County.

Via I 15 & I 70 through Las Vegas, Central Utah, Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis Arrive in Bowling Green Friday the 18th.

Spend two days in the area touring the museum and sights. (One day is a rest and contingency day.)

Monday the 21st, take in a total eclipse-of-the-sun. 1:26 pm in or about Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Then drive on toward the Windy City.

ETA the other end of Route 66 is mid-day on the 22nd. Then kick off the ride back. Basically, along I-40. We will drive the older roads as much as time allows. But will not be driving the portions that have reverted back to dirt. Plan is to take a day off from driving about half way back.

Now you go through Saint Looey
Joplin, Missouri
And Oklahoma City is mighty pretty
You see Amarillo
Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona
Don't forget Winona
Kingman, Barstow, San Bernandino…

Arrive in LA Saturday the 2nd, more or less. If someone needs to get back sooner they can shoot ahead.

Along the way

Basically, blast out to Kentucky, then taking our time coming back to smell the roses – see America. The Arch in St. Louis, Cadillac Ranch, Santa Fe, New Mexico, the back-hills of Arizona.

We want to stop and see people; our friends from prior, friends we have never met, and friends we have yet to make. A few people have said they want us to stop by already.

We are not exactly caravanning, but we are driving together. Keeping track in case anyone gets in trouble. And meeting up mid-day and at the ends of the day for food and drinks.

Hotel selections are up to individuals. But plans are to average $125 to $150 a night.
Join up for a part of the trip if you can. Right now, there are 4 or so Corvettes committed for the full trip.
