AC compressor
The seals in my 6 month old AC compressor leaked and as a result the clutch was fried. I needed to find a new compressor and clutch. They are getting hard to find and if you find a new one like I did last year, chances are it has been on the shelf for 10+ years and the seals are shot (like mine was). I spoke to Dave Hetrick at BG and he confirmed that any new compressors would need to be rebuilt or you risk doing it all again in a few months. Dave has written two excellent articles in 2 different editions of the Heart of the Beast. I will ask him to include a link to them for those of you who are interested in getting schooled like I need to do.
If you replace the compressor, you also must replace the dryer and the orifice tube. The best solution is to have your OEM compressor rebuilt and there are not many places that rebuild compressors. I used Compressors of the World in KY. Ask for Blake 1-800-926-4445. He is very knowledgeable and a man of his word. I was very pleased doing business with them. The price of getting your compressor rebuilt depends on what they need to do but in the worst case it should still be under $200 and comes with a one year warranty. Hope this helps, it is going to be a hot summer.
