OIL filter urban legend?
I'm not 100% certain on this claim, so I'm looking for validation from the real experts (you know who you're).
I'm claiming that the check valve is only half of the equation in preserving oil from leaking out while the car is sitting. The other half is the density of the filter element. Even with a completely well functioning check valve the filter will leak out most of its oil through the filter element and through the center hole! I.E. try pouring oil through coffee filter, it will be a very slow process. Use double filter and it will be nearly impossible. Use hot oil under pressure - no problem. Time to put this urban legend to bed! |
