That top seal may be broken or worn. changing "T" handles would not be easy as it appears the "T" handle is attached to the top of the dipstick "glued" permanently.

Just so I understand better as I've never had a problem with my dipstick (other then its weird readings it gives from time to time)

I thought what I posted is that entire rubber piece- top and bottom. Are you saying there are 2 rubber pieces or seals there instead of 1?

[QUOTE=Dynomite;91545]What you show in your picture is the seal for the dip stick tube which fits into the engine block at the bottom of the dip stick. What I am looking at is a rubber or soft plastic (not removable) seal at the top of the dip stick inside that dip stick housing that fits over the dip stick tube as you insert the dip stick.

Makes perfect sense now- thanks

In my mind I had that all has one unit.

I knew you would come through with the photos - you always do.

Hey can you post a photo of Dex-Cool for me?

So in cars other than ZR-1's, has anyone had this problem. If so, what do you do for a fix and what do you replace it with?

Well, my 94 behaves similar in that after driving for a while, dip stick will pull up by about 1/4". I think my 91, even when the car was brand new, did the same thing.
I did not pay much attention to this figuring it was pressure build up in the crankcase. I remember reading that design engineers had some issue with high pressure LT5 was generating in the crankcase and resorted to some "creative" solutions.
Am I to understand most other LT5s do not push the dipstick out a little after spirited driving?

with the high rpms and all the nice tightly packed whirring parts in the LT5 they have a bit more "windage" and blowing out the dipstick at high rpms isn't at all uncommon

my LSV does it at the drag strip. leak down test will assess the overall health of the engine, and yes, as the engines get a bit long in the tooth a bit of blowby and cankcase pressure is common

put a little spring on it or the seal.

I'm going to do this too, but the only time that happens to me is over 7300 (*so everytime I drive her*)

Shaun, sorry, I havent figured it out yet. but its seems to be mostly the cap where the dipstick meets the handle that may be worn. but still not sure.

Thanks Luis, if you figure it out let me know, and if I figure it out I will let you know.
