Radio Antenna
my antenna has been missing since i got the Z.
its just empty when you look down the hole. I have the replacement mast kit and it says to remove the nut first, but all i see is the black rubber grummet no nut anywhere in there. Ive tried to remove the grummet but cant seem to get it to come out. the manual shows pics of it but not pics of the nut im supposed to remove first. i tried sticking the base of the new mast and it seems to want to just pop in, so i think the old mast and fitting is gone, i did try to stick the mast cord with gears on it, turned on the radio, stuck it in and turned off the raido, it runs but doesnt grab the geared cord to take it in. im thinking i may need to take the antenna motor out completely maybe dirt and water stuff has gotten in there for sure. really dont want to drive around with the antenna poking way out either. how do you remove that grummet? or what are other antenna options have you guys seen or done , so i can just plug the hole? thanks Luis |

Re: Radio Antenna
I just did mine. There is virtually no way you can repair the antenna properly without removing the base it from the car. It is no bid deal to remove, take apart and cleen then re-install the new antenna.
If you try to remove that grommet you stand a good chance or dmagaing the top deck lid paint. Removing the grommet will not be helpful in any event as there are almost certainly broken peices of the old mast stuck in the take up reel. The job can be done in a few hours max, I didn't even jack up the car to do it. You'll need a helper to turn the radio on/off for you as you try to feed the new mast into the antenna. |

Re: Radio Antenna
so I tore my grommet in half trying to get out the mast after removing the nut. What is the secret to getting the mast out of the motor? The directions describe a contact spring which must be saved, and the directions seem to say it will come right out once the nut is removed.

Unfortunately grommet for our Zs do not have that slant due to antenna falling before the curvature. However, it may be possible to cut and modify the piece. |
