Considering the number of pix of "Hooter Girls" we've seen w/ Kieth's car...and YOUR avatar Jeff,...I'm not sure I'm following along here : Uhmmm what "retaining clasp" exactly does he need tools for? (My mind seems to wander...I mean...wonder!)

The glass is very heavy. As suggested, having another person there to hold it in the up position would be helpful. If not, take a rough measurement of a 1x4 board or a 2x4 board or a broom/mop handle. Wrap some towels or rags ground each end and use it as a prop....worked for me.

The struts are always on ebay if you can't find them locally.

I don't know if the struts I replaced were super charged, but mine initially took some effort to close after they were installed.

Is this true??>>> I was told that for NCRS operation verification that the glass hatch has to lift up on its own via the gas struts after the hatch button is hit.

Keith, try to get the real GM parts. The stuff that the aftermarket sells is not "Left" and "right" but one fits both sides.

The issue is the connection for the defroster. The real GM ones have them on opposite sides of the strut. The aftermarket ones, or at least the pair I bought from Corvette Central, have the connection spade terminal on the same side of the strut regardless of left or right side strut. It is a bit of a pia to get the right side wiring to get to the terminal on the strut. I may eventually have to re-solder a longer wire to reach the right side strut terminal. Not the end of the world, but a pia none the less. There is no way that I could find to rotate the right strut's terminal to the correct position for an easy connection.

Keith,

If you are considering ever having your car judged by NCRS then there is a company in Canada that rebuilds them. If you are interested in that information drop me a PM and I will look for the contact info. I remember seeing GM replacements in the $70-90 range. I agree with Tom go for GM parts.

I think I saw that your car was a 1990??? If you are going to replace them and had planned on throwing them away, would you consider sending them to me if I pay UPS Ground shipping? Shouldn't be too much.

Us NCRS guys like to have spare OEM parts.

John
