DRAG RACERS - TWM CALCULATION
This ones for hard core drag racers who want to see how far ahead or behind you were at the win stripe.
Car one RT + ET -DIAL = TRUE WIN MARGIN (TWM) Car two - RT + ET - DIAL TWM (1.47) WINNING MPH = DISTANCE WINNING CAR WAS AHEAD AT THE STRIPE Try it when the NHRA races start again and you'll see it works perfect. Of course there won't be a dial in the pro ranks, so just use the ET and RT of the cars or bikes.

Re: DRAG RACERS - TWM CALCULATION
Interesting
John could you please show an example? Let me see if I get it. The first calc is to get a time. the second calc then turns it into feet? (TVM 1.47) 135mph = 198.5 I don't think I'm getting it Thanks Rick |

Re: DRAG RACERS - TWM CALCULATION
You bet Rick. Below is a real example of a race I won in 2006 with #458. The round I am using is the last round. Long story why the dial in on the car doesn't match the dial-in I show below, well not that long. I'll save that for later though.
The formula actually should have been as below: Car one RT + ET -DIAL = Losing Car Car two - RT + ET - DIAL = Winning Car = TRUE WIN MARGIN (TWM) TWM (1.47) WINNING MPH = DISTANCE WINNING CAR WAS AHEAD AT THE STRIPE Car 1-THEM .115+13.204-12.98 = .339 Car 2 - ME -.058+13.678-13.45 = .286 TWM = .339 -.286 = .053 (I went across .053 secs before the other guy) CALC .053 (1.47) 106.43 = 8.29' So I went across the finish line 8.29' ahead of the other car in that race. Most tracks show the TWM or MOV (Margin of Victory) at the bottom of the timeslip. You can take that and plug it into the formula. Margin of Victory shown on the slip of the race above was .0535, so the timers are showing the MOV/TWM to 4 places instead of the calculated 3 places I show in the formula. If you were to race all the time, and used this formula, you would crap at how close races can be. I have won and lost races by less than an inch a number of times. Hope this helps Rick. Let me know.

Now....does this not assume you were averaging 106.43 mph in that 8.35 ft when in fact your average speed in that increment of distance was a bit less Again...I may be in way over my head here ....no do not say it Hammer ...I know what you are thinking This would not make any difference here, but if you beat the guy by a second.....maybe it would Or if you are getting winning distance numbers within an inch...I would say you might be more than an inch off Or your LT5 crapped out and you were no longer accelerating Last edited by Dynomite; 12-29-2009 at 11:30 PM. |

I think I might have been going a little faster than the 106.43, as that MPH is an average over the last 66' of the 1/4 mile, not the last 8.35'. Great comments...but... this calc seems to be accurate...enough for the NHRA, plus I like it when I win by inches, or lose by inches.
