Weird (?) AC problem
Along with the hesitation issues I've been fighting, I've also got a weird AC issue.
From time to time, my AC will just cut out altogether. A real pain here in the south where it can get pretty hot/humid. It seems that if I rev the car a bit, it will kick back on. Turing the AC on and off doesn't really help. Any suggestions? I'm wondering if this, along with the hesitation could be pointing to an ECM problem... |

Re: Weird (?) AC problem
Time to have a competent AC shop hook up the gauges and see if there's enough R12 left.
As the R12 charge slowly leaks out, the compressor will cycle on and off to the point where if there isn't enough pressure it will not turn on at all.

Re: Weird (?) AC problem
Could be a intermittent issue with the blower motor stopping or the AC rheostat which is also next to the blower. Next time it does this pull over and bang on the backside of the blower motor. If the motor picks back up again in air volume you need to replace the blower.

Gary, make sure you check your pressure switches.

Re: Weird (?) AC problem
I'll check the pressure switches. Also, the next time it quits on me, I'll give the motor a good wack and see if it picks back up!

Re: Weird (?) AC problem
Both pressure switches must be closed for the AC clutch to engage. They're normally closed; one opens when the internal pressure is too low (no R12) and the other one opens when the system pressure is too high - safety valve sort of.

Re: Weird (?) AC problem
Wow...I can't believe that I never posted the solution to my problem.. It's kind of funny that I'm doing it in the middle of winter!
The entire issue turned out to be a bad connector to the blower motor control module. I got a new connector and haven't had any problems since! |

Cool I wondered about that one.
