Default Any ZF Transmission Differences

Are there any differences, outside or internal, in a base model C4 and a ZR-1 ZF transmission. In other words can a 9x base model C4 ZF transmission be interchanged with a 9x ZR-1 ZF transmission? What year ZF's are compatible with each other?

Thanks

only real difference is the lenght of the input shaft.
L98/LT1/LT4 ZF is 159.5mm or 6.279"
LT-5 ZF is 190.5mm or 7.50"

The ZF6 for the base C4 has a different length input shaft, otherwise the internals are the same.
So to answer your question, yes the ZF's are interchangeable...
But....
There are "Black Tag" and "Blue Tag" versions.
And later model ZF's have slightly different exhaust hanger setups, as well as a different plug on the speed sensor.

Here's more info that you're going to want or need, but here it is.
I did a lot of research when the 2nd gear synchro went out.

Let me know if you need any help, tips, ideas, etc.

Input shaft will set you back about 800 bucks, before labor.

The best guy to talk to on this subject is Bill at
zfdoc.com
he is the ZF and T56 GURU!!!
his email and phone are listed on his page and he actually answers the phone every time i call him with a transmission question. great guy and very honest pricing too. he told me once that the later 93 ZR-1 transmissions were actually rated lower because GM abandoned the idea of a twin turbo ZR-1 and didn't need the extra power capabillity. but i cant remember the actual torque rating numbers he told me. but like i said, he will have your answers.
