Default Hurricane Ike.

Hurricane Ike is comming right up our back door. All of the gas stations in my area are emty. So I'm just going to jack the car up as high as I can in the garage and hunker down. We are still 68 miles from the coast but fema says that Ike is no joke. We are looking at 85mph winds. I just hope I don't regret staying.

All of my years in Houston, the worst of the hurricanes was the lack of drainage. That being said we never had a problem with flooding in either of the houses we had.

Jack it up and ride it out.

And beware of the cottonwood trees.

Luckily our nieghborhood is only 8 years old so the oak trees are still small and all of the utility's and phone lines are under ground. I was born and raised in earthquake country San jose California. And now live in tornado/hurricane country. It will be interesting.

Do you have a generator etc. You are still very likely to be without power for a while, even with underground utilities, all of the main power grid are on High Tension Lines all over the city, they will be subjected to the wind at its greatest strength. Power companies will be coming down from the north after the storm to get everything going again, but the last time I went through one, it was Aleisha in 1983 I think, and we lost power for a week or so. I remember my mom taking us up to Conroe just to get Ice and a Coke. I was just a kid then. You neighborhood isn't likely to flood but stay away from I-10...it is usually turrned into a river. Or, if you want some insurance money get your car out there and flood that sucka.

Do you remember during tropical store alice I-10 got so flooded people were riding there jet skies down it? That was hilarious. In some spots it was 15 feet deep.
