4:10 gears verses 3:45's
Has anyone with the 4:10's gone back to stock. I would like to know your opinion on this subject. Not being the original owner I do not know what the stock gears felt like. My only expirience was with my 96 LT1 auto with the 2:59 ratio not the same kind of feeling I am sure. I do drive the car frequently and mostly highway miles with back roads and around town stop and go traffic also. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 4:10 gears verses 3:45's
If your speed range is 45-65mph with traffic, the 4:10's are nice. If it's more open country I like the 3:42's. I have a set of 3.73's that I will be putting soon.
To me it's all about 6th gear. 3:42's in big city life, not so great. You will do the 5-6 dance. |

Re: 4:10 gears verses 3:45's
i agree with polo1 . having 2 zr1 one with392s andthe other 410s i think his idea of 373s is the best of both worlds . with 3.42s the car seems to lug in 6th gear @70-75. it doesnt get to 2000 rpms till87mph my 392 car hits 2 k at 77mph. the 392 car gets within 1 mpg of a 342 gear for me. i think that with the 3.73 gear gas milage might actually get alittle better than with the 342 gear jmho

Re: 4:10 gears verses 3:45's
If I drive it to work I'm on the road for 50 to 60 minutes. Sixteen miles twisty back country roads for about 15 to 20 minutes at speeds from about 45 to 55 mph. The rest is interstate at 65 to 80 mph on Pa. I 83 and Baltimore beltway 695. Nobody drives the posted limit on either of those.

Re: 4:10 gears verses 3:45's
I used to go from 4.10s to 3.45s every other time I drove a ZR-1. Then I came up with a good idea to keep me from driving the 4.10s for almost a year. Kevin is spot on with his post.
Seriously, I now swap between 4.30s and 3.45s. 4.30s are too much. 4.10s are good for street/city driving and 55 mph areas. My 3.45 car is fairly strong with headers, x-piped B&B and Haibeck chip. I like the long pull in the gears of the 3.45s. I shift the 4.30 car way too much and six gear is actually like fifth-ish with 3.45s. Short of it-->stick with the 4.10s if you already have them and the car is still a 350cid. Ted |

Re: 4:10 gears verses 3:45's
Yes the car is still a 350 now. I drive it more to work as I lost my 96 dailey driver. I do like the pull of the 4:10's but I am not familiar with how the stock gears perform in the 1/4 mile and flat out on the highway.

Re: 4:10 gears verses 3:45's
4.10 can still get 23-25MPG and plenty of gitty up
Will go thru traps in 1/4 mile close to red line will make 5th & 6th more friendly No decision, 4.10 |

Re: 4:10 gears verses 3:45's
My 1/4 mph is 116 to 117. I have yet to find the upper end as I have only been to 155 mph on speedo. My car has an electronic box for speedo correction. What I did notice was speedo said 111 to 113 versus time slips of 115 to 117 mph. Is this common for the box.

Re: 4:10 gears verses 3:45's
I have the 3:73 gear now. I wish I would have gone 4:10 when doing the switch. Would never go back to stock 3:45.
