Tom
If GM had built the ZR-2 Corvette in the nineties with the big block. Which would you have chosen? |

Re: Working on the 74.....
John......at the time I would have chosen the ZR-2 Big Block.....mainly because of the cost factor......I couldn't afford the C4 ZR-1 at the time.....although I was trying to find ways......lol

Re: Working on the 74.....
Looking real good, Roadster. Lots of work going into that project!
I've been detailing my '79 L82 engine compartment on and off for a few months now. I had detailed it about 8-9 years ago, but some of the paints didn't last, and other areas needed attention. One learns what works and what doesn't over time. For a Satin or Gloss Black finish on various parts, including bolts, screws & washers, I found VHT epoxy paints work well. VHT Roll Bar & Chassis Satin Black paint for most parts for a Satin Black sheen, and VHT Epoxy Paint Gloss Black for a glossy sheen. After letting dry for at least 48 hours, a week if possible, I've used a curing process by sticking the parts in the oven on 150 degrees for 30 minutes. This, hardens the epoxy coating to the point where the metal socket used to screw the bolt/screw & washer down doesn't mar the fresh paint at all. Also, the red powder coated valve covers had lost a little of the shine and had some spider webbing. Chemical Guy's V36 Optical Grade cutting polish on a microfiber rag worked better than anything else I tried. They have a pleasant shine again. Anyway, I simply need to put it all together, and quit doing another "while I'm at it..."! Here's a pic of the '79 Vette L82 engine (original) detailed and ready for the Air Cleaner.
