Default x-pipe

Would the experts recommend replacing the resonator with an x-pipe? Since the exhaust is out anyway, now would be the time to put one in if it's worth it.

I'm planning to get a set of headers ASAP.

an x pipe will increase your mid range about 10 hp .it sure did on my trans am firebird . you might get more cabin noise though.from what i read here the resonator is the cork on the stk exhaust

It really depends on what you are looking for. Will an x-pipe be less restrictive and therefore give you a little boost? The answer is yes. Will it increase the exhaust note? The answer is yes. Will it increase the resonance in the cabin, the answer is typically yes. The most restrictive part of your stock exhaust system is the one piece manifolds/cats, so replacing them with headers will make a noticeable difference. Just keep in mind that headers with no cats + an x-pipe will be loud. Some love it, others don't, so you may want to listen to a few different set ups.

Ken, also keep in mind the Nevada emissions standards. I do not believe that you can "legally" remove any part of the stock emission control system, including the cats.

Oh, I was planning on going to high flow cats. The state law the way I read it says you can legally replace cats over five years old.

.....now the air injection setup......(just for the weight factor)

And the car still has the power effects exhaust mufflers.

Yes you can replace them, you just can't remove them altogether.

Good luck on your mods!

You can legally replace cats over 5 years old if they are defective. Federal law governs this, not states. However states may or may not test for emissions output and devices.

I went with 3" from cats back with X-pipe and lost some bottom end but feel mid & top gains! X was easy and sounds good, but as most systems has some resonance. Pic attached !
