Default Cylinder head removal question..

Curious...Just figured I would ask...Of course if a motor is out of its engine bay, head removal is relatively easy....Everything is right in front of you..

However, can the heads on the LT-5 be removed without taking out the entire engine? If so, is it more labor intensive than removing the entire motor?

I have removed the heads with engine in car. BUT.....after you see you can almost lift out by hand what is left I removed the bottom end easily as it would be very difficult to time the engine in the car.

Remove the engine and I would say not really labor intensive to accomplish that.

Lifting The LT5

Adding to what Cliff said, a while back Marc Haibeck completed some head-work w/ the engine in place. The cam phasing was the trick - mirrors, live-action cameras... IIRC, he said it was more trouble to do it that way than it was to remove the entire engine to phase the cams. Pete agrees, as do other experts on the subject.
