Default R&D Brace For Sale

*** SOLD *** SOLD *** SOLD ***

I bought this in early 2015, finally got around to installing it last month and discovered it will not work with my exhaust (same reason the P.O. sold it). My 3" custom exhaust (OBX header, SW X-pipe) is too low by about 1" - just enough to be too much trouble to mod to make this brace work on my car.

I was told this was an early prototype model. It has been on a car. It had some very minor scrapes & rock chips. I sanded and painted it, so it looks pretty good. The next owner may choose to have it powder coated for a more durable coating (or not).

I purchased new hardware, primarily because I wanted to safety wire the bolts holding the brace to the chassis. Also included is a cheap, simple tool I made to install the HD Rivnuts to the chassis.

Asking $225, not including shipping.

Shipping may be expensive due to size and weight. It'd be great if someone could pick it up locally (or I could meet somewhere).

Bump. I'm open to offers. Would like to find a new owner and clear up some garage space. If you think you might want to try this brace on your car, please get in touch. Thanks.

Do you know if it will work with the No Flex Stiffeners or would there be no need for both?

That was my original plan - to modify this X-brace so I could also have the benefits of the parallel stiffening rod. I was planning to fab strong brackets to the X-brace's mounts. I had convinced myself it wasn't going to be too difficult. But, having said that, it would/could be a semi-major project, depending on your skills, tools, comfort, access to welder, etc.

I didn't follow through because I couldn't get this X-brace up in place because my custom exhaust hands too low. I really like my exhaust, so decided not to mod the exhaust so the X-brace would fit.

I was never sure which of the two might be the best, or even how much improvement to expect from either. I'd hoped it would help me enjoy the car with the roof off more, but never found out.

I'll be happy to sell this pretty cheap. The biggest pain will be shipping.

Thanks for the interest.

Here are Google search results. Take a look at some of those hits and you'll see some discussions of the advantages.

https://www.google.com/search?q=corv...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Basically, it is an aftermarket, improved design of the cross brace that Chevrolet put on convertible C4 Corvettes to make them stiffer. I was hoping it would allow me to drive the car with the roof off and not lose as much chassis stiffness. The only reason it's not on my car is because it would take too much work to make it fit with my lower-hanging exhaust. Plus, I have a dedicated race car now, so I won't be doing many track days with my Corvette.

Come on over, take a look at it. You can take it and pay for it later if you can use it.
