From quick research, it seems clutch fluid is basically DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid. I was just curious what other ZR-1 guys are running in their cars. GM Hydraulic fluid? DOT 3, 4, 5 or 5.1?
Same question with brake fluid. DOT 3? 4? 5.1? Seems some European brands are offering 5.1 which are silicone based and yet ABS friendly. Opinions? |

Not arguing w/ Dom, but IIRC, DOT 3 is what GM called for, and what I'm using and have used for 8 years now. With regular maintenance, I've no complaints.
However, I don't track my car (yet) either; so there's that, and I'm open to suggestions... ![]() |

Clutch fluid and brake fluid are the same stuff, and it's a good idea to not intermix - use all DOT3 or DOT4 (don't use 5). If you track the car...and I mean road courses where you actually use the brakes...use DOT4 with a boiling point as high as you can get, preferably over 500 degrees. I just flushed mine with Ate blue and hammered it all day long at Road Atlanta, with zero issues.
If you use 3 on track, you'll get a few laps and then your brakes will fade badly. Don't do it. ![]() |

One thing I do is change the fluid in both at least once a year or when it starts to turn yellow/dark. I hate to see dark fluid in a nice car when the hood is opened.
