I lived in the mountains SW of Denver for 3 years, and I can say with confidence there are some extraordinary roads to explore along the "front range" and beyond! Colorado area would be a terrific candidate, IMO!

Never too early to start scouting a route out. ANY TAKERS????

Last year a group from the northeast met in Winchester, VA on Sunday before heading to blowing rock for MR2. We stayed at the Best Western there, had breakfast at the Perkins restaurant, then met with others from PA, MD, etc for the ride south. Is there a similar meet-up planned for MR3? We plan to spend the night somewhere in northern VA on Saturday before heading to Fontana Village on Sunday.

Getting anxious and excited as MR3 is only a month away, give or take.

That would be cool to do. Looked it up this week. Denver is about 1000mi from Chicagoland. I've done the Chicago > Lincoln in about 7.5 hrs and that's halfway.

Last year we left Perkins in Winchester about 9:30 AM, Sunday morning. Keep in mind that it will be Mothers' Day. Also, gas prices in Winchester, Virginia area are about $2.50 a gallon for premium. The price drops about a nickel as you get further south into the state. I think Jim V is coordinating the Winchester meet this year.

And so it goes.....Jim

I am interested in meeting in Winchester Sunday morning. Rich and Scott from WAZOO have said they will also. I am on a road trip in California right now so I have limited ability to coordinate a meeting place until I get home.

Since you're (Saw your photo from Long Beach, did you reload at Seal Beach?) away, I'm suggesting those heading to Fontana from the Northeast meet as we did last year. Consider the Best Western, Lee Jackson Inn, at Winchester, VA. 540-662-4154. It has a Perkins Restaurant attached for breakfast. If you choose this, take I-81 South to exit 313B. Once on the exit ramp, get into the left most lane (even though you'll be turning right). As you complete your right turn, there will be a traffic light at which you will turn a partial left to enter the hotel and restaurant. I'll be there and plan to pull out no later than 9:30 AM. Access back onto I-81 South is quick and easy.

And so it goes...

Speaking of twisties of beauty, US-6 includes the Coors plant, and the Clear Creek canyon route out toward the ski country, Idaho Springs (gold mining continues to this day), US-285 over the pass down into Fairplay, SR 9 south to Co Springs and Pike's Pk...We could spend a whole day (or more!) just seeing Colorado! The so Utah, south along US-85 to Bryce Canyon and from there is is a rock's throw to the Grand Canyon, and the Pueblo Cliffs... That whole area is one breath-taker after another!

Lets see if some "indigenous" ZR-oners would be interested and have some more routes to consider. (Some of the scenes that Jim is sending back on his current trip brings back a lot of memories - and I'm itchin' to see some of that from the Z! (Gets me all tingly to think about it!!)

I Second this idea!
Same as last year!
Let's meet at 8AM for those that want to eat breakfast before hitting the road!
ONE MONTH away! Looking forward to this trip!!!

FWIW: For the trip home I am planning on leaving after lunch on Saturday, driving as long as I can stand then finishing the trip on Sunday. 800+ miles alone is just too much for me anymore! Just saying in case anyone wants to run with me on the return trip.
