Seems that most people say when it its 100k, it's a high miler. As long as it's maintained properly, it should go another 100k with no bottom end issues.
Just my opinion. You'll get a lot of them...

Re: what is considered high milage for a ZR-1?
These sucker's go on forever if maintained well. I have seen ZR1's with 150K plus that ran and looked like a 15K miler. In fact the car ran like a scalded dog.
Just a thought.....one never hear's the question on how many mile's are on that 63-67 Corvette's. I really don't think it matter's , again providing the car has been taken care of.

Re: what is considered high milage for a ZR-1?
My chassis has 120k +, but the drivetrain and suspension have been re-done, the motor has about 35k on it. So is it newer, or is it a 120k mile car?

It is assumed inside storage and with no mice Knowing you Know Stuff.......... yours (XfireZ51) is probably a 35K car if the suspension was redone when you re-did the motor. Last edited by Dynomite; 07-05-2013 at 12:35 AM. |

Dyno,
Mine was pretty much a rhetorical question. From a collector POV, car is 120k. For me it runs like a much newer vehicle. The nice thing is that you can continue refreshing it so in the end as others have pointed out, mileage really matters little.

Rhetorical question or not......it appears you have now put on 32.5K miles on these cams since these photos?

Re: what is considered high milage for a ZR-1?
For a GM car, I'd say 200k miles is about where the typical chassis is just plain worn. The wire harness has suffered wear and tear from many repairs and heat cycles, the suspension and chassis stiffness is affected.
A friend of mine insisted on driving his 89 IROC z-28 into the ground. 300k miles and the doors dropped an inch lower when you opened them from loose hinges. on the 2nd and a half engine job, rear axle done over...pretty much everything had been touched...at some point you are throwing good money after bad. Of course the ZR-1 has value and should have the justification for more service costs, but there has to be a point when a car will start looking real good as a spare parts car when you can just find another tighter 60k mile one for a decent price. |

When we looked at the motor during the install, the intake cams still looked like the pic you have above. No wear indication so I feel pretty comfortable w using the Castrol GTX Diesel 15W-40 that I have been using for the last several years.
