Default Replacing a windshield question...

Sad to say, my windshield was also a casualty of my adventure during the 1/2 mile shootout a couple weeks ago. [sigh]

Well, I have located a standard C4 windshield but someone mentioned there was a source for repro ZR-1 windshields, which I'd like to explore as well.

Anyone have some info? The repro source was from Europe, if I recall.

Find yourself a very competent glass tinter and have the new C4 glass done before the install on a bench. There are maybe 3 very quality vendors that do tint specifically for windshields. Have the window duplicated in the tint. If you've concerns about safety inspection issues get a prescription from your DR or an Ophthalmologist for it. It does a couple things 1. it's effective and 2. you've "repro'd" the look and to everyones amazement there's no de-lamination issues.

I've an acquaintance that has all of his windshields done still I believe.

The balance of the order that KW failed to close on for the Scandinavian glass ended up in WAZOO land I believe. Is there still some? Don't know for sure.

Tint laws by state: http://www.tintlaws.com/laws/IL/

Windshield is generally only allowed a visor but a windshield specific tint is next to "invisible" from the outside. The "window" will be obvious.

Paul,

I just so happen to have the repo in one of my Ruby's and a stock unit in the other Ruby. The repo unit seems to have some distortions at the corners that the stock unit doesn't. Not real noticeable but hey, I noticed... The cutout looks OK but it seems different in some ways...

I kind of like WVZR-1's tint idea...

Cheers,

Paul,

Contact Jim Voter ... there may be a couple of windshields in storage in Westminster, MD and a really fine installer there as well. I replaced my windshield last year while at Carlisle and had everything done in Westminster (not far from Carlisle). Good luck.

Thanks to all!! I'll check out the leads in coming days. Awww, geeze! It just makes me sick to look at her.

Some good news tho...

I saw no grass or dirt inside the air horn, but pulled the plenum to have a look-see, just in case. NO dirt/sand, and only two flecks of grass.

There were no drips under the car, after sitting for a couple weeks, but the reserve coolant tank was empty, which made me worry (again) about an internal coolant leak issue from a month ago, possibly being head gasket issue after all. But, when I poured about a half gallon of coolant into the reserve reservoir, somewhere down around the right bottom side of the radiator is where coolant poured out. Well, not good news, certainly, but not a blown head gasket either...which had crossed my mind a month ago (turned out to be a worn out rad cap...I HOPE.

It took me over 2 hours to dig the mud (clay) out from in front of the radiator area, and flush what I could out. It was getting dark by then, so I quit till I can start pulling it apart next w/e and see what's what...

I've contacted a dozen glass tinters up to 100 miles away and nobody would make the "cutout" from their tint for me. I was planning on using llumar windshield tint.

Paul, do you have the outer fiberglass piece of the hood that is currently not attached? I have a front bumper. We can fix the hood until you can find a nice one. Frame dimensions will need measured prior to replacing and aligning the panels.

Save all of the bumper and hood shims, bolts etc.. Let me know when you are coming to Pendleton.

That seems quite odd, have you checked with any domestic/commercial tinters that don't generally do automotive based installs? Did any of them explain why they weren't interested? Maybe just the "legality" of a W/S tint in your state?

PW - Did you get my PM over on the CF?
