I have heard about ZR,s with turbo but not with supercharger. Is there a reason for this? |

Re: Supercharged ZR-1
OK, a friend of mine asked me if he could use my ZR to develop a intake manifold with a 3,3 Lysholm (swedish) screwcharger and after cooling....bla, bla.
To me, it sounds like fun to install a supercharger OK, we are a couple of guys working/playing with turbo,s and supercharger,s on snowmobiles (We live in the northern part of Sweden....) with demands for minimum size, hights and so on. We think that we can develop a intake manifold with a 3,3 Lysholm (Swedish) screwcharger, after cooling and so on, without rebuilding the hood. But of course, it will cost a lot, i think! |

Re: Supercharged ZR-1
Also keep in mind there is a bunch of stuff under the intake manifold. That stuff might not fit under a supercharger unless you raise the hood or something.

Re: Supercharged ZR-1
Thank,s for your reply,s, I,m glad i found this forum because there are not so many ZR owners (knowledge) here in Sweden! Since my ZR is stock and in nice condition i was thinking, is it possible to find a used LT5 engine or maybe a used/damaged ZR at a descent price......anywhere???

Re: Supercharged ZR-1
HI JMKZR1-94 AND WELCOME TO THE FORUM
THE ONES ON EBAY ARE USUALLY LOW MILES AND BIG $$$ LIKE 10K+ AND THE CHEAP ZR-1'S ARE USUALLY VERY ROUGH AND SUPER HIGH MILES AND NOT REALLY A BARGIN OR THAT CHEAP TYPICALLY 10K+ AND 150K MILES AND THE BODY IS TRASHED OUT FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. PLUS THE JUNKYARDS KNOW THAT A LOW MILES LT-5 IS WORTH BIG $$$ BETTER OFF TO SC (CENTRIF TYPE NO HOOD NEEDED AND COMPRESSION IS NOT A PROBLEM IF YOU KEEP THE BOOST LOW @ <5 PSI) AN LS1 C5 VETTE IS WHAT MOST END UP DOING. HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF ONE>> http://zr1netregistry.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3031 NOW U CAN TURBO AN LT-5 BUT AGAIN BIG $$$ HERE IS A DISCUSSION OF IT>> http://www.zr1netregistry.com/forum/...ght=TWIN+TURBO http://www.speedshopthagard.com/proj...ZR1/index.html AND A FEW MORE>>> http://www.zr1netregistry.com/forum/...ght=TWIN+TURBO http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Street/8943/ http://www.corvettemagazine.com/2001...king/king1.asp http://www.zr1netregistry.com/forum/...ht=TWIN+TURBOS http://www.turbochargedpower.com/ THIS SHOULD FILL YOU NEED TO KNOW!!! Re: Supercharged ZR-1
I thought seriously about fitting a supercharger in place of the plenum and inj housings, building a new blower manifold, etc..... When I got through doing an economic evaluation, the resultant Hp wasn't worth the cost on a low boost (5 psi) application. You could build the equivilant Hp for less money, normally aspirated. Unless you want to do it for the "trick factor", it's not worth it.
If you want to go for more power, such as what might be had with a high boost, purpose built engine, now you're spending really big bucks. At that level, I forgot about it and switched tracks onto the turbo train. We're now in the process of building the prototype, rear-mount, twin turbo kit for ZR-1's. Can be installed in your garage, with reasonable skills, will have all you need and not cost you anywhere near the cost of an "up-front" turbo system will and will generate more Hp than a supercharged LT5 pkg (which doesn't exist yet). WIth some foresight, you can order upgraded turbos so that you can use them for a high boost engine, should you decide to modify the engine later. Good luck with your project & should you decide to accept that mission, please keep us posted on your progress.
