Digging through a chiltons for the car I looked at the fastener section late last evening and discovered they not only use Torx as we know, phillips and regular but something called Pozidrive as well and for $7 bought a multi size set from Amazon with a universal carrier for 1/4" tools to use them in. I think this is what the screw I took out is. It is essentially a shallow phillips with one small "star" line between each of the phillips slots...the end is filed off to make it shallower as well. I'll post a photo in a second. I'm building quite an inventory of drivers, square, torx, star, phillips, regular and I think either hex or pentagon as well. All are used somewhere for things auto and otherwise nowadays. My taillights on the tbss are torx screws or one of them, at any rate, have the right tool for that now too.

Nothing gets simpler it seems.

two more views of what it looks like as a pattern...a modified phillips with more bearing surfaces for the screw head to work easily with a driver.

I know my fathers 96s used Torx. Im not sure if the 94s and ups went to Torx. Never heard of pozidrive however its neat to continue to learn. Well done Lance it certainly is a shallow bit pattern, no wonder only the beefer screwdrivers only fit in there. GC

Drivers...You could make a workable posidriver without the tiny starburst that would work by simply filing the nose flat of the right sized phillips but I think all of these drivers were done for one purpose: make machine assembly or machine tools easier to use.

Benefits I see would be less damaged fastener heads, stripped, during assembly and I'd bet easier machine fitting into drivers if machine done, more positive orientation and therefore quicker and more reliable. The last thing I think they offer is the use of more precise torque. Once in a torx or any of these other hex or other type patterns seem to be able to handle the force of either torquing the screw/fastener in or removing it much easier and if the interface stays fast then the results will be more uniform fastening. I can see with automation in either tools or total assembly where this would be not only good but almost essential.

I'm going to get a separate little tool box or use one of my drawers just for fastener driver heads. Right now they are in different places which is not good.

I like the torx myself best of all.

I read your description of what you've done to your car and it is amazing. Like a rebuild only better.

Thanks Lance its not for everybody however, my Z is my daily driver. There is no reason a C4 cant be as technically advanced and as comfortable as a C6.

Had a few folks at the Pavillions this weekend over in Scottsdale drop by to look at both Phil's and My car. A lot of folks notice Lee's Map Sensor covers and spoke a lot about the LT5.

Common trend is folks love the look of the LT5 vs the Tupperware stylings of today.
