Default Getting ready for winter storage

Hi All,

I am getting ready to store the Z for the long cold winter. Coolant is good down to -47 deg F. I want to prevent rodents from getting into the interior or the heater A/C system. Are the only vents to the heating system the vents at the bottom of the windshield or are there other fresh air entry points ? The floor and storage areas are closed and tight.

Up here in northern VT we use dryer sheets to keep the rodents out and the sheets seem to work very well. I was planning on lining the sheets up at the plenum screen at the bottom of the windshield and covering the car with our car cover.

Any tips comments or whatever would be appreciated.

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving

Don't forget to plug the exhaust tips to keep the critters out......I plan on using fine screen crumbled up to fit the openings.

My best advise is to try and find out the entry points where the mice are coming in to begin with.....In my case they were coming in at a small gap at the bottom of the garage door where the weatherstripping wasn't quite meeting the floor in one spot.....I remedied the problem and no mice seen since , but I will still take precautions just in case!.....Kevin

This should be my annual "sticky" note, I recon.

Living way out in the sticks on a 21 acre spread, mice and rats used to be a problem. Long story short, keeping them out was much, MUCH less effective than killing the bastards BEFORE they got in.

Forget that Decon crap. (I found turquoise colored (Decon) mouse turds all over my console and top of the plenum, one year, and was being over-run!

This stuff called "One Bite" is my first line of defense now. I spread it around the periphery of the garage where the dog can't get to it. Then dryer sheets or cotton balls soaked in peppermint OIL (not the flavoring) under the hood/plenum and inside the car repels all but the most determined. A stick of One Bite under the seat serves as the last line of defense.

I can't say I have a mouse problem anymore. In fact, it is rare I even see signs of one now: maybe a couple or so dead ones lying about (none in the cars).

That said, they are a problem in the cars that sit outside. I keep One Bite nearby, but judging by the signs of nibbling of the poison, it is plain that dryer sheets aren't 100% effective. But, the combination might be!

Heck , the hell with winter storage. I used my vett's all year round. Except in the snow and ice of course. We don't need no winter storage.
We went up to Vermont today.....it was 50 degrees and nice as could be.

Tomorrow I'll be out on the boat in NY. Watching the Sunday fooseball games along with the rest of the outcast NYer's.

Thingy? Married almost 20 years. Its gone.
No big fish here, Frank. Too much pollution. (Not even a 442. Wish there was one in my garage.)

A great topic, I live in the woods and have used a few things to KILL MR. JINGLES. I use Irish Spring Bars in old socks , Mice cant stand the stuff . I learned it from a group of military truck guys who store a lot of vehicles and parts ..I cut up a bar of soap in 1/4's place them in old socks, then one on each wheel , 1-2 under the hood, 1 on front and rear of the car ( gas tank & lower front window...)
I'll have to check into One Bite - Can it be found in Lowes etc??
Hummmm Maybe its the smell of my feet that was in the socks that keeps Mr. Jingles away and not the soap ?
