Default Thermal Coatings

In the future I'll coat my headers. The 2 main options I know of are
Jet-Hot in Arizona and Swain Tech in New York. It looks like the prices are pretty similar.
Jet-hot has the purdy silver though.......
Anybody recommend one over the other? Other recommendations?
TIA

Hi Ted,

I think you summed it up purdy well.

Most people swear by Swain Tech and most of the research that I know of shows their coating to be the thickest and best available. That said, some people either hate their white coating, or would rather have the Chrome look of Jet-Hot. I do believe Jet Hot would be considered above the other coatings that are for cosmetic purposes, but their coating is not as thick as Swain's.

When I was looking to buy headers I was going to go with Swain Tech, but then came upon a set of Watson's that were already coated with Jet Hot. Unless you are looking from underneath, our headers are hard to see unless you really look for them so I'd say go with the Swain unless you are into it for the cosmetics.

So, do you think Swain will keep more heat in and reduce engine compartment temps more than Jet-Hot?

My guess would be yes, but I do not know of any comparative test between the two.

Let us know what you decide.

I dont have personal test results, but after many years of research on the subject, my conclusion is the Jet Hot is useless and the Swain Tech is the best product.
If someone wants to show test data, Im listening.
