Help, maxed out 144mph
Hello all, I am a lucky guy. I am in the greatest Air Force in the world, own a ZR1 and live in Germany. I do have a problem though. The other day I go for a spin in the ZR1. Sun shining (uncommon here) open road, I am ready to do it. I run 5th up to 5,000 rpm around 130 something (trying to keep my eyes on the road), shift to 6th, I hit 144mph and that was it. It would not go any faster. What tha? Any ideas? The car is supposedly stock, 13K miles. At 100mph the tach is at 2100ish. Help. Thank you

Hi Bill,
Did you turn the "Full power" key? Peter PS. The best airforce in the world is the Swedish Air Force. (Not that I want to start a debate on this. Others probably have other thoughts on this)

I would not shift into 6th. Use 5th for your top end run. Also, I agree with Ajax 2000, confirm that your in full power mode.

Hello Bill, and welcome to the forum. The greatest Air Force in the world is correct. Anyone thinking differently would only have to ask how long their Air Force would last against the USAF, and the one that lasted the longest before their final plane was blown out of the sky could claim 2nd place. As to your top end dilemma, there could be several reasons, not the least of which are some of the suggestions you have already been given. Is you ZR-1 running smoothly at idle and all through the gears? Is the exhaust normal with no smoke or excessive gas smell? |

Re: Help, maxed out 144mph
A stock ZR-1 will go the fastest in 5th gear, 6th is a .5 overdrive and drops the engine revs and power so far the car will actually go faster in 5th.
