closest i know of, and arguably the best is Mark Haibek in chicago. Why do you need to take the zr-1 to the shop? if you let us know the problems you're having we can probably help you

define "overheating" these car's aren't the hugest fans of traffic and tend to run a bit hot till you start moving. where is the oil leak from? front right near the rad?

![]() As far as the LT5 goes, the motor was bread for racing and has proven to be bullet proof, unless molested by the unwashed/unfamiliar "mechanic". Most of the R&R stuff on the engine seems to center around the vacuum operated secondary throttle system**, the pre-93 OEM injectors, and somewhere above 40k miles, the starter solenoid contacts need to be replaced or cleaned up at least. The motor has flat tappets, so you're going to want to run an oil with enhanced ZDDP additives; e.g., Amsoil AMO 10W-40, or Mobil 1 for older engines (with ZDDP added). The current API "SM" has less of the zinc and phosphorus in it, requiring motors to have roller tappets (like your LS7). **If the vacuum secondary system ever gets to be a pain, you can do like many of us have done and eliminate them and install a specially configured "chip". The result is a much simpler system as the engine runs on all 16 injectors all the time which many (like me) prefer! Here at the Net Registry you'll find very knowledgeable people who can help you with anything you want to know 'bout your find. And, if you need a comprehensive "going over", the world renown ZR-1 Specialist, Marc Haibeck in Addision, IL is closest to you. You don't need no steeenking GM mechanic!! Welcome to the Brotherhood! Hi, over at the ZR-1 Net Registry site I found this chart for you. It may be of assistance to give you a sense of what the gauges are telling you about coolant & oil temps.
http://zr1netregistry.com/ZR1_faq.htm Also, not to be a wise guy, but over at the 'mothership' we have an array of How to's, common issues, tips on doing stuff, even a factory TSB data base. I'm not trying to be smart, but when I first got my Z I read thru all of it as it helped me a great deal to get some understanding of the car's quirks and some solutions to them. ![]() Tom Sorry I forgot this is the link to our mothership. http://zr1netregistry.com/index.htm
