Fate found me...
In August of 2002 I became the 4th owner of 1990 ZR-1 #2562. The car was in pretty bad shape and had just over 90K miles on the clock.
Many hours and $$$ later...the Atomic Z was born. Fast forward to yesterday. Out of the blue I receive an email from someone that says they were the original owner of 2562 and that they have many items that belong with the car. I spoke with the original owner today, Don. Very nice guy. We talked about the history of the car, purchased new in California in 1990 for $10,000 over sticker and moved to Oregon and sold in 1994 with 5,xxx miles on the clock. Don lost track of the car and yesterday while going through a bunch of boxes he found all the items that go with the car. He sat down and made it his mission to find the car. Long story short Don is boxing up all the items and sending them to me. No charge...It seems after all these years Don realized these items belonged to the car not to him. Very cool. After we talked and I told him of the condition of 2562 when I took ownership, he realized he waited for the right owner to have the car. The call made my day. Thanks Don for still being a brother of the beast!!

Great story Dennis - What a cool thing for him to have done, so many years later.
Made my day just reading about it! |

Re: Fate found me...
He's sending me all the small pieces he removed: top wrench, tire tester, wheel lock lug nut bag, key knockouts, spare keys, complete pizza box, window sticker, etc.
He told me lots of stories about owning the car....how the car was so sought after that not long after he bought it, someone was trying to steal it right out of a hotel parking lot. He said there is lots of stuff he is sending so, I can't wait to get it.

That's is one heck of a find Dennis
I believe in the "Good thing's happen to those that do good" theory.

Re: Fate found me...
Hurry up and get the stuff before Blume Flame finds out about it and buys it!
Just kidding, ZR-1s are great because there is just so much behind each car and the car itself, seems like the more we look into the cars the richer the history gets. Good Stuff!

Re: Fate found me...
That's a feel good story Dennis. There's a lot of truth in "waiting until the right owner had the car." If he had found the stuff earlier & reunited it with the car back then..... there's just no telling.

That's one of the reasons that makes it really enjoyable to own these cars is all the history behind them (especially after you start reading the HOB book! ). I mean, what other car out there has a whole book written on just the engine? Of course the other big reason is the actual driving experience, although I have yet to experience that myself. It's kind of funny, by the 16th of this month, I will have had my ZR-1 for 2 years and I haven't been able to start it even one time! But I will fairly soon actually, I'm planning to have my Z drivable sometime this month.
