Default MovIt Brake Eye Candy at its finest

Gentleman:

This is not an advertisement by any means as I know that MovIt's are are rarely sold to ZR-1 owners simply because they are extremely expensive and overkill for our beloved beasts. But I wanted to show you a project we are just wrapping up for a fellow ZR-1 owner. This kit is installed on the 4th to the last C4 ZR-1 made and the car only has 000005 miles on it and sits in a garage for my client to admire.

The Front is a 6 piston billet system with 342mm rotors and the rear WAS a 4 piston billet caliper with a 2nd mechanical brake caliper for the emergency brake. The pictures of the new 6 piston calipers are going to replace the 4 piston calipers and are enroute to the client for installation shortly.

Again I just thought I would share some eye candy with you all.

I know I will get asked so, this kit was $10K+

That's some nice looking stuff right there! It's a shame they are going on car that will never use them. So maybe that will answer this question, but: did you do anything to the master cylinder to address the huge increase in piston displacement from the upgrade?

Also, congrats on the F1 sponsorship this last season. I saw the nose branding up close and personal on one of Speed TV's "Racing Per Matchett". They looked at the front wing on the Renault, and so we got a good look at the Movit branding.

Looks a very nice setup - is the brake MC up to the task with brakes that size? I thought I'd read someone posting that there's not enough fluid flow for very large brake systems?

Thank you for the kind words. We have been doing alot this last year with F1 and the new line of CER/Ceramics. We have already run our ceramics on the F1's this year in testing and they will get 100% use on all Renault F1's next season.

In regards to the master cylinder and the brake bias. MovIt custom makes each caliper per the specs of each vehicle requirements. So the engineer actually does the math for the desired vehicle master cylinder to be outfitted and manufactures the caliper pistons accordingly in the caliper for a perfect bias.

Nice Eye Candy. Cylons like shiny brake systems. But 10K is way too tuff.

I hear what you are saying about bias, but what about a long pedal?

Also, congrats on cracking into F1 as a supplier, that is really exciting! Will they still be running smallish 278x28mm rotors? I've heard rumors of larger diameter wheels in F1, along with larger brakes. I always found that amazing that the brake rotors on an F1 car were slightly smaller than the J55 brakes on a 1990 ZR-1.

Also, those ceramic brakes look awesome! I do have a question, do you think that is something that will ever (reasonably) reach the level of replacement rotors? I.e. just buying a ceramic rotor and some compatible pads for an existing brake setup, vs some expensive complete kit?

I guess you don't need big brakes when your car weighs less than 1,400 lbs.

I just now read that F1 cars can go from zero to 100mph to zero again in less than 5 seconds!

Oh, and those brakes are really awesome looking, but $10K is more than I paid for my whole ZR-1 including all the parts I've bought so far...

There is no long pedal with the use of our system. It is all engineered into the piston diameter, piston height, size of the hydraulic plumbing inside of the caliper, and some other factors. Again its all done with the math of the original master cylinder. In the end the pedal feels way better then stock.

In regards to the F1 racing gear. Well that stuff is way over my pay-grade. The man in charge of that Is Guido. Even though I have my degree in mechanical engineering this stuff is so complicated it makes my head spin.

That being said the CER as a replacement rotors was thought of at first. It was found to be impractical. This because the CER rotors are like aluminum is to steel. It can be used in its place and is lighter but requires more material to be used to be as strong/durable. So the CER rotor needs to be thicker then a steel rotor for the same durability. This means your stock 24-28mm rotor is too thin. Our front CER rotors are 40mm thick. There are some applications that do cross over and will work with a straight pad/rotor swap like that found on Ferrari's and Porsche's, those brake systems are stock at 34-36mm thick and can get a straight rotor/pad swap out. Besides the fact that the rotors are close to $5K each there isn't alot of folks that want to invest that kind of money as a replacement rotor if they are not going to use it for all its worth. The positive side of the cost is the rotor will NEVER wear out. This means 2 things. First buy a whole kit that can be moved from one vehicle to another, making the kit itself a long term investment. 2nd If you only bought rotors and pads they would only fit that one application, thus a waste of money.

Really nice looking stuff, I like something less blingy.

You can go with Baer 6r or 6s 6 piston mono block calipers with eradispeed 2 piece rotors front and back for half that amount of money.

The ceramic is nice but you need to be careful with cleaning products etc.

I went with Baer after reviewing both products. I'm sure you will say you get what you pay for but quite frankly after doing my research and talking to a lot of people the higher premium for movit was not something I was willing to pay unless performance was better.
