Service ride control light

I have pulled the codes and basically it is throwing every code. I this even possible? This is the first time the light has come on and now it is showing that the entire system is broken.

Any ideas?

The car is a 91 with 97,000 on the clock.

Hi Roger, Okay, you did not do any shock work on the car? When I replaced my shocks I sort of got the same thing, except it was "time out" codes for all 4 shocks.

You could clear the codes doing the battery thing and see what happens. Or you could start her up & drive a few miles and shut down and then restart after a minute or two and see what happens. Or do a combination of both. I know that the system does a self test, but I think it requires a minimum driven distance and a mph threshold. Usually we get the service ride control light when the key is cycled without actually driving the car. I forget how many key cycles without a start up. I know it takes a start up and drive, a shut down and another start up and drive to get the system to do an automatic clearing and retest. Something like that any way as my stuff cleared itself with out me putting a wrench on it, so to speak.

I did the latter "procedure" as I was sure that my connections were dry & good, the shock gears were free and the adjuster motors were good along with the gears and that the motors were seated correctly as per the retainer clips being correctly installed and I knew that my shock gears were at the correct installed height as per the FSM. Hummmm, you might want to take a look at the front shocks' top bushings and make sure that they don't look shot. The bushing condition could affect the shock gear installed height....I think? Not positive on that, sorry, but it seems logical if not far fetched. I kind of doubt there is an actual mechanical issue with your system. Too many codes.

Tom, Thanks for the help. I tried disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes but the crazy thing is still spitting out every code possible for the SRC. I will try taking it for a drive and then shutting it down. I will let you know what I find. Thanks.

No problem Roger. It's impossible that all that could be wrong with the system.

I mean, if the car sits more than gets used like in a museum then I can think of things that can go wrong with the system. Actual mechanical things like the shock rods freezing up and you can just let the controller try to do a self test and boy oh boy stuff is going to break....but that's extreme. Clips can fall out of the actuators, or the gears break....usually due to bad shocks or faulty installs.

You may have to repeat the drive & wait a few times. I know I'm sure it took me three full cycles before it went back to normal at least. I was thick headed and refused to believe that I didn't do my install correctly...I checked all my steps numerous times at each shock.

Cliff I'm going to confess....on the FX3 system....I CHEAT....I have Gordon's jumper kit, that's how I get my DTC's. If the situation gets like this one I do the battery disconn thing.

when my car was in the evolution display at carlise in 03 i was having trouble keeping my battery charged so I started it every day but couldn't drive it. I got the SRC light and asked gordon about it. his response was driving it will fix it

OK, just drove the car and stopped retarted and still showing SRC. I got home and pulled the codes jumping A-C. Here were the codes in the order that I got them:

One more thing to mention is that the car is driving great. It isn't missing or anything. Help. Could it be the ECM?

Yes, I know I am tracking SRC codes but when all of them are going off there has to be a larger problem. I am not sure what direction to go at this time. Could it be the switch itself or more likely a problem with the controller behind the seat?

The book says nothing about if you are getting all the SRC codes, in 8A it says if SRC code 23 is present to check for DTC 24 in the ECM. DTC 24 is the VSS, your speedo works, right?

I still think that there are no broken parts....maybe moisture in the electrical connectors....that's a tall order, but the front shock actuator motors' plugs are easy. The controller is harder as it's in with the ABS controller/pump, and the rear plugs are up inside the frame rails. Check all the grounds at the bell housing. The SRC module has a ground ckt blk/wht 801 that looks like it joins another ckt to become blk/pink at an eye that is on the bell housing bolt with ckt 803 blk/wht, and is grouped with two other eye terminals on the same bolt. Soooo, on one bell housing bolt there are three eye terminals, blk, tan, blk/wht + blk/pnk....I'm sorry I'm lost here as the system should have reset itself and the codes should have been assigned to History.
