Default WOLF HENZLER WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT PORSCHE MICHELIN SUPERCUP

WOLF HENZLER WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT PORSCHE MICHELIN SUPERCUP AT INDIANAPOLIS; PATRICK LONG SECOND IN RACE WITH NINE CAUTION LAPS

INDIANAPOLIS, June 19 – In a race littered with crashes, spinouts and nine of the 16 laps run under caution, Wolf Henzler, from Nurtingen, Germany, who has now won the first five rounds of the Porsche Michelin Supercup series, used a fast start and fast re-starts to score the win in his Infineon Team Farnbacher Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car for Round #5 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Henzler, who got a great jump at the green flag and immediately put several car lengths between himself and guest driver Patrick Long, survived three safety car yellow cautions to hold off Patrick for the win. It looked like Long, the American Le Mans Series factory driver from Westlake, Calif., would get close enough to challenge for the lead after the second restart, but German Klaus Graf has a tire go down from previous damage to his rim, and hit the tire wall, causing the race to finish the last five laps under yellow. The IMS safety crew was able to remove his car in time, but could not repair the tire wall damage before the race laps were completed.

Supercup rookie Dirk Werner, from Kissenbrueck, Germany, who continues to impress with his aggressive driving and ability to run with the leaders, finished third (second-place points as Long is not eligible for points), while his closest points rival, Christian Menzel, from Kelberg, Germany, was fourth (third-place points).

Indianapolis’ Mark Taylor, the Panther Racing IRL regular and Patrick Long’s teammate as the other factory guest driver, had to retire after completing 8 laps due to damage caused by several spins and contact.

The highest finishing American guest entrant was Jim Collier, from Dallas, in The Racer’s Group car, who finished 14th, while Kelly Moss’ Tim Rosengrant, from Cresco, Penn. Was 15th. The Racer’s Group Porsche driven by Gary Becker, from Encino, Calif., was knocked out of the race after a collision with The Racer’s Group teammate Marc Bullock on lap six, bringing out one of the three cautions.

Round #6 for the world's fastest single-marque international sports car series will take place on Sunday, June 20, at 9:40 AM local time with another 16-lap race on the 2.605-mile road circuit at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. All the competitors will be driving evenly matched 2004 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, purpose-built racecars manufactured by the Porsche factory on the same assembly line as Porsche’s complete line of sports cars for the consumer.

Tickets for the United States Grand Prix and Porsche Michelin Supercup race on Sunday can be purchased online at www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com, or by calling the IMS ticket office at (317) 492-6700 or (800) 822-INDY outside the Indianapolis area.
