Default Console Hatch Release

My under the consol lid hatch release dosen't work, the one on the door does, all fuses O.K. Bought the car with 3K miles on it, yet didn't work. Wiring intact, think I really need a new yellow button switch?

Off the wall suggestion, is it possible to remove the yellow button switch and just cross the supply to the "signal" to see if the hatch releases? That should tell you the circuit to the hatch is good if it opens, then it must be the switch. Or once in there you might find that the switch is not connected or that there is some other problem. At least you would have an "end" of a circuit to use an VOM on to ring out the wiring. You could check the switch by using a jumper from a known 12v source and a VOM on the other terminal to see if the switch's contacts allow voltage to pass.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll play around with it more when I get it back together. Just finishing up on the new ZF install, then changing out all the coolant hoses and stat.

Just to make sure, neither switch works with the engine running, it's a safety thing. Is it possible that you tried the console switch with the engine running and the door switch with the engine off?

Thats something I never thought about but, I'll have to check again to make sure. I don't think it works though with engine off. Thanks for bringing that to my attention....

FYI: There is a safety interlock which prevents the console switch from activating the hatch release unless the E-Brake is applied. Make sure the E-Brake is set when trying the console switch. Also note that this interlock does not apply to the door release hatch switch.

Thanks Hotrod, I just learned something!

I must have missed that section in the owner's manual!

Only occurs when the car is started. If the car is not on, you can press the button and the hatch opens.
