Hey Guys,

Sorry for such a late reply. My hotel internet went dead once they got to full capacity on Monday and I could not check any email, etc. I want to thank everyone for the replies and thoughts. I cannot say how much I appreciate these guys here and will never forget the opportunity to meet all of them. What a great bunch of folks and it was as if I new these guys for years. With all the excitement I brought my camera and was just caught up in the moment and did not take any pictures too. I will definitely do everything I can to keep my plans to BG in May.

Thanks again and take care.

Craig

Craig... nice meeting you and thanks for the goodies When I go back to Hawaii to dive (usually go on a live aboard that goes out of Kona) maybe we can get together. Hopefully you can make BG!

well. We do know each other for years. Sorta... It was great to actually put a face to the written communications.

It is such fun to get together with ZR-1 guys and talk about our passion.

I think all ZR-1 owners should move to Hawaii we can drive our Z's year round. We can vote Craig Governer he can make a new Highway ZR-1 that will connect to Interstate LT5

Pete
As great as Hawaii is to visit, it is not the best place to let the ZR-1 stretch it's legs. There are hardly any roads to safely let the LT5 sing, except for sections on the Big Island. However the most fun driving I had was on Maui when I rented a C6 vert and did the Road to Hana. It is full of sharp blind curves, switchbacks, one way bridges, etc., that really challenge your driving skills if driven aggressively. Otherwise in most of Hawaii all you can do is take the top off to enjoy the weather and scenery.

Ahh Yes the road to Heavenly Hana --- I did it with my 1968 AMC Javilin

Mine was gold and looked a lot like this one

290 V8 and a 3 speed on the floor.

We suggest doing the Hana adventure over the 54 bridges and 100+ turns at night (like we did it) if you want to push the turns at least you know when others are coming around a turn from the headlamps in the night. (this was a local who suggested this to me) Plus the next morning you wake up in Hana and all of its glory.

Much more beauty in the day but no way to know about oncoming traffic then. Take the road back in the Day (as I did) and see all the sites on the return trip.

Going to Hana you have the advantage of the best lane (inside) and room to slide out a bit in case you get into trouble. Coming back you are on the outside and at the mercy of the other driver not slide out on a curve and whack you over the edge. As I remember much of the road did not have guardrails back in 1979 when I was there at 20 years of age.

The road to Lahaina Maui is also a good run -- again the inside track being on the way there not on the return trip. That road was wider and had guardrails so it was my favorite one to push my Javilin on.

Back in 79 Maui only had 60 thousand living there. It was the tourist in their rentals you had to watch out for because they were so busy looking at the landscape and not paying enough attention to the road.

Hello again and it takes a few tries to reply here with the bandwidth available from this hotel. Great restaurants in area and awesome commuter system. I even was offered to work here so we'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for all the replies and sure would be great to have visitors come my way too. On a good note it appears I have piston rings on my way and they should be there when I get home.

I remember driving to Hana once and will never do it again; I remember felling a little sick after that drive. I wish we still had the Super Ferry so I could enjoy the driving experience on the islands with less population and open roads, but that went away in a short time due to environmental issues that the State imposed on them.

I hope this reply goes through as it seems to take few attempts to reply here. I might leave out a day early and hope to get to see more of the area before I leave.

Thanks again and take care.

Aloha!

Good to hear you have the ring issue under control.
DC is not a bad place to live although I prefer more tropical climate.
Keep us posted as to what you are doing.

Craig,
It was great to meet you! We are very fortunate to have such a good bunch of ZR-1 owners to share our obsessions with. As you can tell, we will use any excuse to get together. I hope you plans for BG will work out and we can visit again. Thanks to Dave for coordinating and to Glen for hosting.

Hey Guys,

Thanks again for your hospitality and I finally have a good internet connection at Reagan National Airport on my way out. I am leaving a day earlier so did not get to see much of the area, but I did get to downtown to see a little of the Smithonian and D.C. auto show. I could not find the Tommy Morrison ZR-1 on display so I am a little dissapointed. I guess I came to this area the coldest time of the year or the coldest the area has seen in long time. It was in the 20s so I could not enjoy the 1 day I had to sightsee, but I hope to come back again.

All hell broke loose at the office in the last week that I have been gone so I'm not looking forward to going back. My assistant (Contractor) submitted his resignation for a government job in the other half of my section and was then told there is a budget freeze so he can't be hired. He can't go back to his old job working for me because he has already been replaced. The other civilian position is on a hiring freeze too and our Senior NCO has been called to report next week to Afganistan and the one other soldier is leaving the unit. My boss is on emergency leave due to a family member passing away so it will be interesting when I return to work on Monday.

If I win the D.C. or VA lottery I'll order a C6 ZR-1; I went to the auto show yesterday to drool on it.

Take care and Aloha. You guys are an awesome group!!
