I have already developed a ton of GM contacts researching #74 so hopefully I will be able to chip away at its early past.

Congrats on another cool car!
How do you get a copy of the dealer invoice?
I didn't know these were available.
Thanks and good luck with the new car.

Then they total up what you owe, commisions, taxes etc. You take a deep breath and pray your pen has enough ink to write that big of a check. They hand you two sets of paper work a white copy and a yellow copy. Then you walk accross the parking lot to the "Property Room" There they check to see if there are any additional loose things for the car, Manuals, trophies, all those signs you see models carry on the stage etc. There are all sorts of really neat things in there from hard tops to original tires. all sorted on shelves by lot number. In the case of 004 there was no additional information. That was a drag because #074 had it's log book there. Then you head down to key control. After the car is run through and returned to the tent the keys are dropped off at another tent......

More to follow...

And a teaser picture on my first day home with #004

Is #74 the Snake Skinner?

Also anybody know the $47k bidder obviously he also is a ZR-1 enthusiast.

Congrats

Love to see it at BG.
Pete
He came back and talked to me, but I can't remember his name off hand. I have his card at home. He was known in ZR-1 circles, but not a member of the "Reg"

#74 is not Snake Skinner. Boy I wish it was. Snake Skinner is number #81

#74 is this car:

Thats the 1990 NSRA Giveaway car. Know back then as the ZR32. It was built by California Street Rods. Chevy used CSR to build some west coast concepts back in the day. They gave them #74 (which they painted Plum Crazy) to use and the drivetrain and running gear from another <20 VIN 1989 ZR-1. I have heard it was #13 but I have not confirmed that yet. They built it and showed it. It came in 2nd or 3rd at the 1990 Oakland Hotrod show. Then they raffled it off at the 1990 NSRA show. #74 and the ZR32 running gear were at SIMA in 1989. I have tracked ZR32 a little, but have not found it's current owner. Wouldn't that be a neat reunion.

George, I will get that to you tomorrow. Allied Vauhn has a contract to access that database for GM. Most post 1977 Chevys are available. It's $50 and neat. I found out from them they don't have one for #004. I will share why later. Still digging on that info.

I do not think it was ever there before. The car was returned to GM a short time after the 1990 NSRA show and they stored it in a warehouse at the Advance Concept Center (west coast design office) for 14+ years. Dick Balsley found it around 04 and shipped it to the Heritage Collection. It stayed there until #003 fell out of a tree and replaced it at the Center. You might be thinking of Purple Smash. It lived at the Museum for several years and is a very similar hue. That was a color test it was either a 92 /93. That also sold last year at BJ.

I will never take anything for granted on #74 just when I think I know the whole story other things pop up. Dick said he only showed it outside the Heritage Center once. I have not confirmed where yet. If you find a picture of it please let me know. the book is never closed on this one.
