Compress all the way. Can't compress a little, hit a groove, stop, then keep going. Have to pull apart, reset, start over. Have to fully compress in one fell swoop. They are not the easiest things to reset. Sometimes they go simple, sometimes the opposite.

Yes....Jeff (Jeffvette) helps all of us out a lot and that is MOST appreciated.
Let me know if you end up needing a new tensioner. I have a right side (old style) to let go for cheap since it does not have the box.

Did you install new style R/H chain tensioner? That new style R/H is suppose to stop chain slap on start up I guess.

No, not yet. I have top half being worked and need to rebuild the bottom half. I don't imagine assembling the heads and everything else for a few more months.
