Default What are your thoughts about drive/half shaft safety loops?

At what point do our cars need or should have these type of safety loops? Have you heard of folks snapping either on our cars or at what HP or situation should these be considered. Does anyone have any on their Z?

Thanks for your input!

Seems the rear hub spindles are the weak link...'snap' before the half shafts do. If/when a half shaft fails (probably more of a universal failure issue) wonder if there is a correlation between being steel version vs aluminum versions (post MY90 VIN 622+) half shaft assemblies??

Chances are a person will never need one unless they get their car to hook 'Hard', IE:Slicks. Right or wrong a lot of people just go off the NHRA rulebook. Don't need a Driveshaft S-loop until you run 11.49 or quicker on street tires or 13.99 or quicker with slicks. Half-shaft loops required at 9.99 or quicker, regardless of tire choice.

I had half-shaft loops on my Stingray when I was still running an I.R.S., the rule for NHRA isn't spelled out very clearly...says you need a loop per half-shaft. My big thing always was where do you put it , toward the diff. U-joint or toward the wheel spindle U-joint...
Never did get an answer, I had mine toward the middle just to make sure nobody could say anything, even though I didn't like it there myself .

Thanks for the replies. I was just curious as I am doing all this work on the Z and was under there messing around to prepare my driveshafts and halfshafts for powdercoating. I guess if you drag race a lot and like Ryan said with slicks then you better think about it.
