Default Got the new starter inst but

It really pizzes me off and it's my fault that I forgot to block the coolant off from entering the plenum. It fills up the first two bores on the left and right side up to the top with engine coolant when I cracked the plenum open. What a freaken mess. Luckily I made an extension that connects to the shop vac and reduces down to a 5/16 clear flexible hose that reaches all the way to the top of the valve and suck everything out dry in 2 seconds. Anyway the new starter works great. But I can see that I'm going to have to reseal the valve covers. I'm noticing a slight oil leak from both the drivers side and passenger side toward the back. Every time I fire it up after several days of not driving it it burns oil off for the first 5 minutes then its fine. The only place I didn't spread loctite 518 was on the rubber end plugs. I spread it right up to the corners of them and overlapped a bit but apparently that wasn't enough. So I've got to do it again. But this time I'm going to just jack the engine up to get the valve cover bolts out of the drivers side. There's no way I'm taking that break booster out again. The hell with that.

Yes.....remove the engine mount nut on drivers side and jack under oil pan with a short 2x6 wood between jack and oil pan. Let us know exactly what happened as I have my valve covers off and will be trying loctite 518 also.

You did not drain your coolant when you replaced starter?
Why did you remove valve covers?
You cleared the drain under the starter?
You did not install new rubber end plugs?
The oil leakage comes from rubber plugs and down onto the exhaust?

I removed them for top end porting and powder coating. I had the coolant blocked off from entering the plenum and throttle body before and just forgot to block it again thats all. I just reused the old plugs. They still looked fine so I figured why not. But I know thats where the leak is coming from. It looks good and runs great other than the small oil leak. That will be next weekends project.

I am doing about what you have done (powder coating and porting). I did get a new starter, alternator, coils, plug wires, plugs just for kicks since I have it all apart and those items are small change compared to the work involved. I am adding a Haibeck modified program chip, SW off road headers, SW 3 inch pipes, red SAMCO hoses, and new RC injectors

Maybe a new radiator since I have all the coolant drained.

I think I will get new rubber end plugs since those old ones are a bit brittle I was hoping Jerry had them.

Oh...ya....and Carter is going to do some machining for me

The leak may be coming from the injector housing and not the plenum.
Do a pressure test with the plenum off and look at the # 3 and 4 primary ports in the IH.

Nope. Definitely valve covers at the end plugs.
