Default Motor died while running, now no-start

Took the Z out this morning, was running really well - probably the smoothest it has run since I bought it. No sign of any issues for the first 3 or 4 miles. Stopped at a light, then took off gently. got up to 30- 40 mph or so, then nothing - pushed in the clutch and the motor was dead. There was no warning, no stumbling or hesitation.

It cranks just fine, but doesn't fire. Just got a tow back to the house, going to let it cool off a little and start troubleshooting, I suppose...

Maybe primary fuel pump failure. Make sure your also not out of gas before you get too involved you may have a faulty fuel sending unit and simply ran out of fuel .

You might be on the right track -- no fuel pressure, even though I hear fuel pump priming. Now, this pump has maybe 200 miles on it since new from the partsladi. Filter is also only about 200 miles old.

Plenty of fuel in the tank -- I can see it in there thru the filler neck. added a gallon anyway -- no different, still zero at the fuel pressure gauge, nothing if I push in on the schrader fitting at the rail.

Swap the secondary fuel pump as the primary. I think you lost the primary fuel pump. The swap will be the confirmation.

Also the Partsladi is a great vendor. if its new pump I would bet a beer they would replace it for free.

I seem to recall there being an electrical way to do that, without pulling the pump assembly out of the tank?

Thanks
Andrew

Andrew I dont think so. The Primary pump is the higher of the two you have to physically swap the lower pump within the housing. I am not 100% positive since I have not peformed this job yet. But I am pretty sure thats the only option

The only other Fuel delivery area to look at beyond the pump is the fuel metering block/valve behind the plenum.

OK, I'll get started on swapping the pumps. Thanks for the info Daryl.

Before you get the fuel pumps out, try energizine the fuel pump wire off the main harness. It'll be by the ECM, and be a red spade connector. Hit that with 12V from the battery and see if you get pressure.

What I think you are seeing is the primary is dead, the car ran for the first 5 minutes or so, because the secondary pump was running as well. Once it reaches temp, it shuts the secondary pump off, and will leave you stranded.

If you have some electrical pin tools, you can swap the power leads for the pumps in the back.
