Default What to use to seal Cam Covers...

The manual calls for Permabond A136, which is somewhat difficult to get ahold of.
Loctite "equivalent" is 518 but if you check the spec's it is not quite the same particularly in it's sealing thinkness.
Permatex has "High Temp Anaerobic Flange Sealant" that spec's very similar to the Loctite 518, but still has much less sealing thickness than A136.
There also Permatex 1B but it's not anaerobic, it's alcohol based.
What is everyone using here? Anybody use "The Right Stuff"?

Limey (Kurt) Sells the A136. Jerry sells the 518

As far as I know the 518 Loctite and the permatex are the SAME.. I have the NAPA packaged Permatex stuff.. I just need cam covers now

Hans,
Loctite 518 is what Marc Haibeck uses......

I did some research awhile back, since Permabond A136 is pretty old chemistry. Permabond now makes MH196 with, in my opinion, improved properties. It has a higher viscosity, making it easier to apply & stay put during assy and faster fixture time.

Whichever you decide on, make sure it's fresh, not past the use-by date. The Loctite 518 has an expiration date on the bottom seal area of the tube. It's widely sold on eBay but virtually all of it is past date.
