Re: Now accepting advice?? look inside
Keith,
Any one of the three is awesome. Here's some thoughts about 1) "uping" the hp of your car, 2) C5Z, and 3) C6Z. I've driven them all and here are my observations. 1) I've had the pleasure of driving a stock ZR-1 (which you've surpassed already). I've had Haibeck's top end package with 4.10s and it was awesome--it's now a 415 (more later). I have an SGC top end with stage I cams and 4.30s. Once you go into the engine of the LT5 the rewards are amazing. A ported top end (heads included) is awesome. 4.30 gears are too much for me. The ultimate is the 415. 555 rwhp is just about right. My only regret is that I wish I would have done it sooner. Every true ZR-1 lover should have a stroker. I would say the ZR-1's depreciation is the lowest of the three. 2) C5Z is a great car that can go fast cheap. Good for racing but a little stiff for some on the daily commute. It lacks the creature comforts, like our C4s, of navigation, bluetooth, etc but will outperform most anything on the road. The cars are very affordable and have steadied on depreciation. 3) C6Z is another ballgame all together. Stock dynos are around/higher than the top end LT5, has a waranty (maybe), has the creature comfort options, etc. Prices are coming down fast which is the definition of depreciation. So, going nowhere fast....the modifications on your ZR-1 will about equal the depreciation on the C6Z. If you choose #1, you can enjoy it and let #3 bottom in price. Unless you want a track car or are "attracted" to the C5Z, the C5Z will leave you wanting #1 or #3. Otherwise, go all the way and find a good-priced C6Z and never look back! I wouldn't trade my 415 for new C6Z, but I LOVE the LT5/ZR-1. Ted |

Re: Now accepting advice?? look inside
Greetings, sports fans: ( )
I appreciate all who have posted in this thread. and must admit, i've decided to sit on the fence. One of my new friends at the bar & grill has a 2006 blue, z06. i asked him for a ride, and we were supposed to meet and ride in each other's car's late friday afternoon ( yesterday) . I arrived a little late, but, when i walked in, he said, let me finish my late lunch, here are the keys, take her for a spin. and of course me being of questionable sound mind, jumped on the offer. I eased her off the ramp, into traffic onto the interstate, (kinda) that little blue car will jump, I was impressed, i lightly ran her through her paces Here are my thoughts. I'm gonna probably go for the haibeck 500 hp upgrade. a lot of bang for the coin. I'm gonna get the engine polished at the same time so it will have a ton of bling when sammy the clammy opens up. the c6 is faster than my bolt on, zr1,, But. not $40,000. 00 faster. i dunno what i'm gonna have marc do, but i know a C6 ZO6 is in my future. I compare the two cars as such. the zr1 is a controlled 'beast' mine is loud and obnoxious and i love her. I told wifey to just bury me in it. The c6 z06 is a highly bred race horse. Secretariat of cars. ( Franky is gonna give me his ) when the z06's age a couple more years, i will snatch one up. |

That's a good idea. Let Marc do a top end job. BTW I like the output per dollar on that package.
Then go on out a get a ZO6 somewhere down the road.

Keith,
I concur with your decision right down the line. After drivingthe C6 ZO6 during the school at Spring Mountain, I love the car.... but want it for a creature comfort, bells & whistles daily driver. I'm gonna wait a couple of years and grab one at a bargain. For the adrenaline rush, the 415 and the hi-boost TT LT5 in my future will take care of that. Forget the C5.

Re: Now accepting advice?? look inside
Yep 700rwhp. It has stage three cams and is supercharged. I was there when they dyno'd it. I was standing about 20 feet behind it and the wind comming out of the exhaust nearly blew my shirt off me and just about destroyed my ear drums. To have it done coasts $29,000. So I figure most of us paid somewhere in the ball park of $22,000 for our Z. And then you send it off to LPE for $29,000 and It comes back transformed into a monster from hell. $22,000 + $29,000 = $51,000 which is still cheaper than a brand new 505hp Zo6 and still twice the power. But most of us would agree its cheaper to buy a 415 already done.
Don't get me wrong the new c6 z is a wonderfull car. Vary smooth and the navigation system and heads up display are so sweet. It was noticebly faster than my 90 Z. Not buy a hell of a whole lot but never the less it was. And after driving that new zo6 and then hopping back into the ZR-1 it felt a little old and squashy. And it didn't have that new car smell anymore. But as soon as I hit the gas all the excitement came right back. Last edited by rhipsher; 11-01-2008 at 08:58 PM. |

Re: Now accepting advice?? look inside
You've got your red ZR-1's at Corey's kind of mixed up.
Will's is a 415, normally aspirated & stage III cams To have this done is about $30,000, give or take a few thousand. It dynos in the 550 rwhp range. Phils's is turbocharged (not supercharged) no Stage III cams, and is the one that dynoed the 700 rwhp. Getting one done today like Phil's will run in the neighborhood of $75,000 for the engine work required to handle the boost & build the TT setup.
