yeah ,but its a cheap version of what you need it will read trouble code but i believe you have to count the flashes to find the codes that are set . a decent tool will give you actual led readouts .

For that type of code reading, save your money and use a paperclip.

I wouldn't call that a "scanner", as they generally retrieve operational data from the car. That's simply a code reader. If you didn't have any codes set, that tool wouldn't be useful at all for diagnosing any drivability issues.

If you want to see some stuff before you buy it, I've a EZ Scan 6000, as well as TTS Datamaster on a laptop you can check out. I can bring it to Chik-Fil-A sometime if you are interested.

I don't go there that often, so let me know when you want to meet up and I'll bring the stuff.

Just a suggestion, I bought the Gordon Killabrew "jumper package"...forgot how much $ it was...not too much if I recall. You get a book with the short version of the codes, what they are, and you can use the jumpers to clear the DTC's and see if they reset. I keep them in my glovebox as they are great for use anywhere.

For me they are easier to use than the paper clip because you don't even have to look at the ALDL connector....just pick the "jumper" for the system and plug it in the ALDL....for example you get a jumper for the ECM, FX3, CCM, SIR, ABS, & I forget the sixth one...but you get the idea.

I would like to purchase a diagnostic tool that works via a laptop, does anyone have an opinion on what make/mosel is the best?

Thanks

TTS Datamaster is nice because you get 20 records for free before you have to buy it. So you can try it out before committing. You just need a laptop and a cable.

I know this is an old post..see I do search!, But I downloaded datamaster and now, I'm wondering what to do with it. Do I just need a usb to aldl connector cable with my laptop to start reading what's going on with all the parameters that are monitored?

It's not easy trying to learn this stuff without help. What's the best way to learn about setting/tuning the different sensors and what's going on with the injectors, which are firing, which are not, same with spark plugs, coils, dic, etc. etc.?

I'm pretty good with an multimeter, just have to be told what to do with it
