95 ZR-1 Resale - 2k vs 12k miles?
As a prior owner of a 78 and a 99 corvette I am looking at purchasing another corvette. Unlike the last time I'd like to lose as little as possible in the 3-5 years I think I'll have it. I am looking at a 95 ZR-1 with very low miles. I'd like to get some thoughts as to what type of hit I would take after putting 3k a year on it for 3-4 years and try to resell it? I am trying to come up with a way to have a nice high performance corvette that isn't going to cost me 15,000 to own for three years. The one I am looking at now is upper 40's with less than 2k miles.
Thanks for any input or experiences you may have had. |

Most people here will tell you that you're looking at a better car to drive with a 20,000 mile car than a museum piece like you're looking at. You can get a decent Z with 15,000-20,000 miles for 25-30 grand and not lose much if you sell it in a few years.
That, and these cars like to be driven. You're going to have fewer problems with a 15,000 car than you will with that 2,000 car.

Re: 95 ZR-1 Resale - 2k vs 12k miles?
My guess would be once you get one, you'll want to keep it longer than 3-5 years. Have you owned a ZR-1 before?
If your primary reasoning is resale/ $ recoup, then a super low mile example might be right for you. I think once you get the "bug" however, you wont want to get out from behind the wheel. These cars get into your blood and are really a fun hobby car. The people and the history of the ZR-1 bring forth a true appreciation for the car & its owners. Good Luck in your search!

Re: 95 ZR-1 Resale - 2k vs 12k miles?
Hello and welcome to the forum.
Based on what you said, you might be better off getting one with a few more miles on it. The reason being that you want to enjoy it by driving it a few thousand miles per year rather than having a museum piece. When you buy a low mile 95 you will typically pay the premium for one with low miles. So buying one with higher miles will not be as big an issue. So if you want to enjoy driving it as opposed to worrying about it's resale value, that is the way to go. Here are the ones listed on the ZR-1 Net Registry. http://www.zr1netregistry.com/ZR1_sale.htm |

I'm trying to find a black or yellow that still appears close to new. I am not neccessarly looking for an investment, just something that may be an alternative to buying a 2009 that will fun to drive and not cost me as much while I own it.

Re: 95 ZR-1 Resale - 2k vs 12k miles?
I have already been the museum piece route with a Black/Beige '95 Z with 2900 miles, and it is OK for awhile, but I found myself not wanting to drive it because it was so nice and because I felt like I was driving my investment into the ground. That is why I bought my 28K mile '91, now I don't feel "guilty" about driving it, for lack of a better word. I guess the best of both worlds would be to have a driver and a waxer. A waxer, maybe Torch Red/Beige '95, could be my next long-term project......hmmm.
