I think they see the logic, but most local repair shops, even this one I used, really only want to work on OE equipment. They just don't have the expertise, software, tools, and knowledge to use after-market products.

Thanks for the feedback all! I'm so anxious to get my 92 running well again...

Frankly, when they are in the position to pull the plenum properly and also reinstall it without damage to material or performance - they should also be able to plug in an aftermarket piece, no?
I know over here in Germany shops don't necessarily LIKE it when you bring your own parts because they make good money with selling ridiculously overpriced OE stuff. But in the end if the part has OE fit then it's the same plug'n'play process as it is for OE parts.
Or, to say it the other way around: if they feel uncomfortable to install aftermarket parts I'd have serious doubts if they are the right guys to work on my ZR (or any other car) AT ALL.

BUT (disclaimer) my thoughts are based on my local experience. Everything may be totally different in the US market. So it's just my 2 cents

Your 1st PLENUM PULL is a rite of passage!

My NOS (GM) injectors, installed by GM dealer, lasted about 2 years before the alcohol got um. Accel injectors from Summit Racing (part #150821) have been in the car for 11 years now with NO issues, what so ever!

And, the FIC injectors from Jerrys Gaskets come in a kit including gaskets and the injectors don't require you to grind off the little plastic indexing nub on the injectors inserted in the secondary ports.

This FORUM is you source for everything ZR-1 related. And, combined with a Factory Service Manual (aka "FSM") and a multi-meter (aka VOM) and a set of metric sockets and basic tools, you can tackle all but major engine or transmission work!

It's part of the fun of owning a historically significant piece of automotive history!

An interesting tidbit of information.
Now this pertains to injectors for a C-4 LT-1.

Customer INSISTS on AC Delco replacement injectors.

We default normally to FIC, or Standard Motor Products.

As requested, we order the Delcos.
We happened to be doing another LT-1 and had Standards.

Opened each.

They were IDENTICAL, 100% identical except that the Delco ones were $20.00 more each, and the box had a differing part number.

On LT-5's, while Accell and others seem fine, I will only install new FIC's.
I NEVER install anything else and NO "rebuilds".

NO FIC. No injectors installed here.

Reason:
If they need to be replaced prematurely due to failure or performance I have to pay for that and that is not something that either I or the owner wants.
I have never had to replace an FIC new injector.

Sticking w/ what works - makes sense 2 me 2! However, if for any reason the FICs (stainless) are not available, my Accels (part # 150821 from Summit Racing) are running fine now after 10+ years and 40k miles. (The only thing is the little plastic indexing nub has to be ground off before the connector will fit on the injectors destined for the secondary ports. Nothing needed to be done on the injectors for the primary ports. But, from FIC or Jerrys Gasket, it's hard to beat getting the whole kit including gasket and O'rings, etc.!)

I?ll be doing a writeup on my experience with FICs. I have used them to replace a set of Accels that were in my motor for 10 years. At that point, you may want to inspect the Accels. On my motor, the aerator in the nozzle had deteriorated to the point where the injector was just flowing a stream of fuel into the cylinder. Without the proper atomization, the cylinder ran lean leading to detonation and ultimately a cracked compression ring in #7 cylinder.
I had the complete set flow tested and 4 injectors had a poor flow pattern aside from the injector with failed aerator.
My advice would be to do an injector tip inspection on your next plenum pull. Even better, have them flow tested.

I'm "in the queue" to get my car to Haibeck...will finally get the car running properly.

In addition to the injectors and a few other problems, I'm still trying to track down the mystery clunks coming out of the rear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkpIYMVHd9Q
