Default New Coils and brackets

Long time since I shared any R&D. Here is a sneak peek at the mock-up of new 8 individual coils mounted on the stock base plate. This is just a shop engine, the 427 obviously doesn't have the secondary throttle stuff in the way.
These are Bosch motorsport coils, as used on current EFI Nascar engines. They will be fired direct by the new ECU.

Yes, I tried to find coil-on-plug boots to allow direct mounting, but was not happy with the way the boots fit. So, for now it will still use plug wires from coils to plugs.

Big shout out to CT Machining (Carter) for the mounting brackets.

I think COP would ruin the look of the valve covers personally. While the heat under the plenum isn't ideal, I think it's the best spot.

Todd, While investigating CnP I was advised that the CnP was a better solution than COP. Apparently, CnP puts out a much better, hotter spark.

you can have a much larger coil with coil near plug. Look at the size of ls coils compared to pretty much any coil on plug. They are twice the size and are known for putting out a ton of power.

Nice Install.. Doe everything fit under the plenum? I assume the added space of not having the OEM IM helps

Oh yes. Plenty of clearance. No ICM helps a bit.

That’s true, but extreme coil power isn’t really terribly relevant with a normally aspirated LT5. In this case, more isn’t always better/needed.

These are a little more than 50 Mj energy output, if I recall.
