Re: Aluminum flywheel.... new clutch?
Yup, sprung hub disc helps with the rattle. Some transmissions rattle very little, some like crazy. Higher idle speed at 850 helps too. Had buzz saw sound on the old trans and engine. New trans and engine don’t have it. In my opinion it’s the Valley drain tube vibrating. I would isolate the tube with a rubber hose over it so it can’t hit the block. Or, just remove it altogether. If the secondary drain hole has been drilled per the service infomantion bulletin it superfluous anyway.

Oh and almost forgot. While you have all that stuff apart anyway. It might not be a bad idea to replace the master, slave and hydraulic line while your in there. You may have a low mile car but those seals and rubber components are still 25ish years old. Btw, luz my Fidanza, the engine really revs quickly.

Re: Aluminum flywheel.... new clutch?
Definitely a sprung hub it will cut down on some noise. My suggestion, is oem pressure plate and a centerforce dual friction disc or a Centerforce clutch setup with pressure plate and disc (If I remember right the CF pp has a higher clamp load than the LT5 pp - which in turn is higher than the LT4/LT1). On my car it only rattled a bit when very hot at idle. Wasn't noticeable I have many idle videos to show the sound. But under load there's definitely gear rattle if say you're loading the motor ie using a higher gear or two and/or shifting early.

Re: Aluminum flywheel.... new clutch?
Carolina has gotten a bit of a bad rap because they had discs made in China that were breaking apart and inconsistent thickness or something along those lines. When I spoke with Tom he acknowledged the issue and suggested the more aggressive friction disc that had a steel backing plate which I went with. If I had to do it again, I would go centerforce without hesitation just my .02

Re: Aluminum flywheel.... new clutch?
I have a Spec SC66A-2 aluminum flywheel, 18lbs with a sprung hub clutch for a Camaro with rpm at ~800 rpms there is minimal to no rattle with this combo.
Works really good.
