Are we including new ZR1 on this board?

One other thing guys. Most of the buyers of this car will not even know about the previous two ZR-1's In the C5 and C6 generation, there have been so many first time buyers it's not funny. And the sad part is, they have no clue or thought process about there being a Corvette prior to 1997 and what it may look like.

This car will receive more support from GM, as the engine is nothing special, other than a blower on top. It's a beefed up LS3. GM techs will require no special training to work on these cars.

I think we should take the bull by the horns and add sections for the new ZR1. If this registry doesn't someone will start a C6 ZR1 registry. You guys are rough on the new ZR1. It is special, it has a great name. It has a super performance engine. It looks (slightly) different than a regular C6. Sometimes some ZR1 owners can be such snobs and here I find it hard to believe those would turn their back on our cars grandson! From a business stand point it would bring more revenue in and bring more attendance to events. Most important (IMHO) the new ZR1 is going to renew interest in the C4 ZR1. And although low on numbers we should have a C3 Zr1 section along with historical info on that ZR1. If we don't change with the time we will be left behind. There's always bitching here that no one uses this forum and here some are not wanting to include more potential users.

As the "elders" it's our responsibility to teach and in form them. So what the new one will get more support from GM, I sure would hope so! So what no special training is needed to work on them, that's a good thing. Seems like that pisses you off because our motors needed specially trained techs.

The ZR1 old, older, or new is a special model of our beloved american sports car. I say we include all or risk being know as small group of C4 snobs with nothing to really be a snob about.

I don't mean to speak out of class, & I'm not trying to be a troll.

I came to this hobby back in 1977. I knew what a vette was, but that's about it. I bought a 72 LT-1 used....or more correctly, an abused LT-1. I had to put the car back together & your sources were people you knew who had been there & done that, or people that they knew & hooked ya up with.

My point is that eventually I learned exactly what I had bought & what it was intended to represent, a hard core car. I sold it & 25 yrs later wanted to come back to the hobby. I was intent upon having another special vette....I know, what a snob!

I guess what I'm trying to say, lamely, is that eventually some of the noobies do learn just what it is that they bought into if they buy a "special" vette. The next thing that they're gonna do is look for a place where their "kind" hang out. Then they really "learn" just what they bought into.....they become like us... because some one passed on the knowledge of the history of what they own. I know this could be dumb thinking, but look at us....we are not all the ZR-1 owners in the world....and we keep the history alive & pass it on to any new owners that drop in and stay.

I'm actually on the side of adding a new ZR1 section. In the long run, I think it is the right call and the new car and owners will bring interest in ours. Just my two cents...

Maybe it would be a good idea to wait until there are actually owners of the new ZR1 and see if they are even slightly interested in coming here. Just my 2 cents.

The ZR-1 registry was formed for owners who were not getting help on their cars and as a way for them to communicate and swap tech info and stories in general. And no it does not piss me off. Not sure how my post conveyed that.

As to your point Jeff, I frequent 3rd Gen quite a bit. That's a website devoted to 3rd Gen F Body primarily although you'll see sections on LS motors as well. Here we have ZR-1 Registry. Up until now our cars have been largely forgotten, but I think GM has decided to re-invigorate the moniker with this new 09 Vette. Why wouldn't we consider it the successor to our cars? I wouldn't make this simply a comparison of motors. The rest of the ZR1 is pretty darn sophisticated. Carbon Ceramic Brakes, suspension, dry sump, carbon fiber body panels, fluid coolers, magnesium/aluminum frame. Come on, we'd kill for this stuff.

Why is it snobbish to think there isn't much in common between the cars? I don't have anything against the new ZR1, it looks to be pretty badass. I just don't see how there's any real overlap in the new Z and ours.

If we just want to include other 'vettes to get more numbers, why not include all C4's too? They at least have some technical stuff in common. Increasing membership seems like a poor reason to me. It's not like this is a for-profit business. If it's about gatherings/events, well the Registry teamed up with the GS and Callaway guys just fine without having to have them join up here.

Doesn't the "registry" part of the Net Reg come from the LT5 registry? If GM ever slaps that on something again, will we invite the owners of whatever that is (some diesel hybrid econo car probably)?

I'll be the first to admit, I see thinks differently than most. But, think about the first time you pull up to a light and there is a new ZR1 sitting there. (Yea I know, it's no likely to happen for a while.) I understand the technology is different but aren't you going to look at the car and think, "man, look where we've come". I'm thinking the guy in the new ZR1 is going to think, "so that's where it started". We share a name and brand; what they do will reflect on us. What we do will reflect on them. They are the new superstar; as far as I see it we're both part of the same team.

When I bought my Z I didn't know what a ZR1 was or why it was special. It was in a lot with a bunch of other Vettes. I have since learned much and the registry has been very helpfull. The ZR1 name has now been continued on the latest ultimate Vette. We should be glad as this raises the name recognition of our own ultimate Vettes to continue the legacy. The C4 Z is unique in it's own way as the C6 Z will be. We should not feel threatened by the new one. We can be one big happy family. We can be an all inclusive ZR1 site.
