New member - 1991 ZR-1 Auto Masters "Street Skinner" #1
Hi all,
I'm very excited to join zr1.net as a new C4 ZR-1 owner! I purchased this car last week after having my eye on it for almost 6 months. Long (and interesting) story on how I came to own this piece of ZR-1 history. I also own a 2009 Z06. I've always been a huge fan of the C4 ZR-1's and can't believe I actually have one in my garage now. My car is 1991 #1608 and (to the best of my knowledge) the prototype for Auto Masters "Street Skinner" package. The car was formerly owned by Tom Sullivan (California) who had worked with Jim Van Dorn on this build. The car was then sold to Quentin Phillips (North Carolina). I have an extensive documentation package including the "Street Skinner #1" certificate. Tom Sullivan also took a bunch of photographs of the build including pictures of Scott Skinner assembling the engine. I'm still learning about the ZR-1 in general and this car in particular. The car is Quasar Blue (1 of 71 ZR-1's in 1991?) which is my favorite color for the C4's behind Steel Blue. The car has been extremely well cared for mechanically. Nearly every receipt for repair/maintenance since new. Aesthetically, the paint needs some serious attention. The clear coat has been neglected for years and needs work. I believe that it can be restored without a respray. Here are a few pictures of the car from the previous listing: https://classiccars.com/listings/vie...new-york-14551 If anyone has additional history (or corrections to my info above) on this car please let me know! Re: New member - 1991 ZR-1 Auto Masters "Street Skinner" #1
Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I've read numerous posts on this forum commenting on how helpful and friendly people are here
I'm torn on what to do aesthetically with the car. Specifically, the stripes. I personally would want the car to look as it did from GM (Quasar Blue, no stripes). I don't care for them personally; however, these stripes kind of serve as the "identifier" for this car since it had them in all of the magazine articles. They are painted on and possibly could be carefully wet sanded off in some areas. Others would have to be repainted. But, I also respect the history of the car which might warrant their preservation. I'd be interested to know some thoughts on this. Thanks again! Jason |

I like the treatment of the hood stripes. Probably best to keep them as they are part of the car’s provenance. Everyone wants a well-known car to look like it did when it was establishing its reputation, not how it was subsequently personalized. Just my two cents.
