Getting ready to replace resonator with Magnaflow Tru-X Muffler
I decided against buying any of the exhaust systems out there for our cars. I am replacing the stock resonator on my 95 with Magnaflow #12468, 2 1/2" ID in/out. Decided against just an X pipe not being able to find the exact size I wanted and also not wanting to take a chance with the dreaded drone. The size appears perfect fit based on measurements and the center to center is same like stock at 4". I like the thought of an x-pipe design within an open style muffler. Here is a little peak inside through the other end; difficult to photograph this angle. Mufflers are Dynomax VT with single 2 1/2" in/out. According to Dynomax you need an H or X in front of these mufflers to ensure no flapping of valve. Supposedly not good for cammed or big CI motors from what I read. One member has good success with the Dynomax VT in 3" on his 415 so I thought I would try them. The mufflers and tips should arrive tomorrow then off to the muffler shop. The tips are Black Series dual 3 1/2" double walled from Red Tail Performance. If I don't like this setup I will probably end up with Corsa's w/black tips. More to follow on this project........

Very innovative setup! Will you have any before/after dyno data? Keep us posted! Good luck!

Re: Getting ready to replace resonator with Magnaflow Tru-X Muffler
Some of us went to a Corvette outing yesterday at Autobahn "Country Club".
Thanks to Rob DeMarco, we hung a mic above my Z06 exhaust tips recording during the track laps. Hope to have sound when Bob downloads. Should be a full range of sound although we never got a chance to go full WOT. I originally installed the MF cat back which included a combo Xpipe/resonator. However, the Xpipe was external and ahead of the resonator. I liked the system and the exhaust note, which was muffled, but very pleasant. I was able to measure ~400rwhp w headers and ported top end using this system. Trapped 118mph. However, I was also using the MF muffs, not the DynoMax VTs. Good muffs, BUT the hangers absolutely suck. Over time, the torquing of the motor flexed the skin of the muffler thru the hanger ultimately tearing part of the shell leaving the muffler hanging.

This is the Magnaflow system I had.

Oh and the MF system had a very nice "purrrr" to it. Good wail at WOT, but not the screech of the Corsa. I liked it better than the 3rd Gen B+B system I had previously.

Re: Getting ready to replace resonator with Magnaflow Tru-X Muffler
Most other C4 exhausts have a stud welded to the face of the muffler facing towards the back. The stud then is bolted to a hanger in back. The MF system uses "rods" welded to the top of the muffler. They are bent in a "lazy S" config and stick into the back hanger. Unfortunate because the rest of the system looks like a quality piece but they skimped on this. Over time, the shell of the muffler flexes and tears. Mainly, it was the passenger side that failed because the torque would try to pull the muffler down flexing the shell. I would either weld a stud to the face of the muffler or reinforce the muffler shell where the rods are welded.

Did you ever get this system put together?

Getting ready to replace resonator with Magnaflow Tru-X Muffler
Damn! Six years late, but I swear I posted when I got the system installed. Sorry, I guess better late than never. Very quiet at idle, but once the Dynomax VT muffler valve opens up all hell breaks loose,so I love it. They do not rap the motor when they test the car so it works for me. Once I get back to Japan I will install the shorty SW headers with clamp/bolt on C6 Z06 cats I had made and all the choke points are removed. To me the stock 2.75 inch stock exhaust with somewhat mandrel bends are enough flow for a stock, top-end ported motor.
